If you are at all serious about racing, I highly recommend this device

All distances and speeds are adjustable. Lap times feature six breaks for timing through various sections of a track. Recording is done on a SD card automatically as long as the card is installed. Accel, decel, lateral G readings/logs. All this is GPS based as well, so it is accurate.

The trap speed function is very good. So basically, you can go see what your car runs wherever you want, whenever you want. It also gives 60' 330' 1/8 mile, etc and MPH to go with. Its priceless once you drop the money on it. It also simply plugs into your cigarette lighter.

Pretty similar to the G-Tech which is what I have...although it's newer and looks like it has 1-2 more options and more memory for sure. But mine is old, like from 99. Does what I need though

Another thing i want to buy.. Damn you Cory.

I like the fact that it links up with the GPS sats, thats pretty neat for seeing how fast you can blast down X road and back. I was wondering if it would let you do a timed run from point A to point B instead of just lap times.. That would be cool.

Its not like the G-Tech. All data is acquired via GPS. The G-Tech uses accelerometers. I would think distance measurement would be much more accurate, as well as speed, and... well pretty much everything.

You can do point to point as well. You simply set the start waypoint and then the finish waypoint. You can adjust how wide the start and finish line is as well for tight courses so you don't trip the finish line by accident.

There are also accel, distance, and decel tests. You can infinitely adjust two separate measurements for each. I think distance is even more. There is also a three parameter test, so 0-100-0 can be adjusted. On the "Navigation" screen, you can see overall distance traveled, altitude, MPH rounded to the nearest 1, and a compass. Also, you can datalog as long as you have room on your SD card. On the software, you can see any data you can see on the display datalogged at 10hz and circuit overlays, plus whatever I haven't found. This is really good for seeing where you are slow. Let a good driver do a lap in your car and then you do a lap. Then you can see what you are doing wrong, or differently.
