dashboard power outlet

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

The dashboard has a little compartment containing a power outlet (formerly known as a cigarette lighter) and a small area (formerly known as an ash tray). But the "ash tray" features a very peculiarly shaped felt covered lining which can be removed. There is obviously a specific purpose for the size and shape of the "ash tray." What gives? what am I missing?

I use the "ash tray" to hold quarters for parking and as a place to put the cover for the flash drive when there's a card in the drive.

I also wondered about the "felt-covered" ashtray and if it was that way when the lighter was a lighter. Maybe the felt kept the ashes from blowing about. b**** to clean, though.

remove the felt piece to use as an ashtray. Otherwise leave it so that it keeps the change from rattling around

I keep a small micro cleaning cloth folded in there for cleaning sun glasses and LCD display. To small for anything really practical like holding glasses or garage door opener.

Or even too small for a Starbucks card, or a parking "card". Not very useful, except for change...

I don't mind it but it could be bigger to make it more useful.

Skip... welcome to the Forum.

My Wife throws her BlackBerry Cell-phone in there... and I've put my iPhone4 in there, sometimes.

You just have to watch your Fingers when you throw the Car into "PARK".
