I have a Japanese import 2007 Nissan Fairlady Z ST.
It comes as standard with the Bose head unit and Bluetooth navigation.
The navigation unit is no good here in New Zealand as it can't be converted, so I intend to take out the navigation controller behind the drivers seat, the control switches and the screen.
What I want to know is can I take out the dash trim from the radio to the 3 gauges and replace it with the dash trim that includes the cubby hole with lid that I have seen in non navigation vehicles ?

Yes you can swap the non nav parts for the nav parts. I don't think 07 got bluetooth but if it did it's tied into the stereo.

Thanks for that, my 07 has got a bluetooth printed on the navigation controller, not that it's much use as it's all in japanese and I haven't got an instruction manual.

Maybe the japanese market got some weird version of nav. I'm honestly not even sure what good bluetooth would do with nav? Generally bluetooth is so you can stream your audio or calls through your stereo. Still should pose no problem swapping non nav parts for nav parts.

From what little information I have managed to find after 3 weeks searching the web, I believe the navigation controller is linked to the Bose head unit for audio output.
I also found what appears to be a telephone connector in the rear centre console cubby box, it appears this connects to the navigation controller as well. Apparently the 2007 ST model came with a voice activated bluetooth system, which can't be converted to English.
I've got a company on the job and they tell me that they will be able to adapt the original navigation screen into a touch screen and add New Zealand navigation and a reverse camera to it. They are also looking at fitting iPod/Iphone integration to the Bose head unit also.
Atleast this will give the defunk Japanese system some functionality whilst keeping the original appearance.
If and when I have completed the transition, the only thing that I would like to remove would be the Japanese navigation control switches,
Is there a blanking plate available for these or is it something you need a fabricator to make for you ?

Voice control isn't bluetooth but bluetooth can be voice controlled. The nav at least the USDM version uses a disk which you can buy from a nissan dealer with maps for the country of your choice. As fr language I'd be surprised if it wasn't switchable but if not I'm sure you could just swap in an english unit. If the nav didn't come with a touch screen you're talking about gutting the box and sticking a different system inside it, and thats what makes your switches inactive. If you're gonna swap out for an aftermarket system why bother keeping he factory facade? Just do the swap propper, a clean install will look better than a bodged hybrid.

I have looked at swapping in an English unit, but there are no maps available for New Zealand for the oem navigation system.

I was looking at a clean install, that's why I asked the original question, I can't see the point of fitting a new head unit and leaving the oem navigation screen in place, although that may be the best option at the end of the day.
I'm also looking at trying to keep it looking original and adding IPhone/Ipod connection via USA SPEC BT45- NIS orPA15-NIS and a local audio installer putting navigation & reverse came into the original screen.
That way I can bring the 350Z up to date with modern technology.

My local dealer has quoted me NZ$820 for the dash parts.

Ebay if your friend, unless you can find someone parting out a wreck, then you can probably get everything for a tenth of the price.
