dash temperature sensor '89 240

IM sure someone has had this problem before but i would like to know if anyone can help. Ever sense i bought the car the temp sensor reads wrong. the car hass never overheated but after driving the car a bit it gradualy goes to the top peg. in the morning it is starts at normal operating temp. any suggestions?

im thinking the thermostat might be the problem but i really dont know

I'd check for bubbles in your coolant, and try replacing the coolant sensors. You'll want the one wire for your dash.

i'd 2nd that a trapped air bubble or 3 is in the system...

it should normally start in the morning @ the bottom... then when the t-stat opens, should go up to the middle operating temp...

i have a 97 240 and i have a similar problem but mine will sit normal at idle but when im going down the road it drops all the away to the bottom i think mine is the gauge or maybe a sending unit of some type i wouldnt worry about it unless it is causeing problems.
