I am under the impression all you have to do it cut a hole in the dash and mount the projector thing there. Just line it up with the display surface, if your windsheild has one, otherwise put it wherever you want.I'm sure someone else will post to confirm (or, hopefully not, reject) what I said

Good thing you read through my sarcasm, because when I said,

I really meant, "No. No you cannot."

Sorry man, you cannot, in fact, cut a hole in your dash. The FBI will be at your door in the morning to prevent you from committing this grievious and innane act. It's like pulling the tag off a mattress. I mean, damn, who the hell do you think you are? Who are you to supercede the powers that be and CUT A HOLE IN YOUR OWN GOD-FORSAKEN DASH?

You make me puke.

...

LOL... Seriously, man, it'll work. The only problem will be the quality of hole you cut. Just take your time... the plastic isn't easy to get through.

...

And don't tell anyone. They'll be watching for you...

LOL. Cool.

Post pics when you're done with it (if you go through with it in the end) because I'm thinking about swapping out my analog instruments for digital, but the whole cutting-into-the-dash thing has me thus far undecided.

Good luck, man.

well it turns out i didnt cut the whole in dash for the hud. i didnt want to risk it....i miss the hud but i will still live without it. i dont have a camera but i guess i can mickey mouse the job and take pics with my camera phone. removing the dash wasnt as bad as i thought it was. i had a left over screws, but i kinda knew that was going to happen i think i mixed up the screws too....whenever you guys remove your dash separate the screws or label them. i just put all the screws together which wasnt that good.

HOW DO YOU TAKE THE DASH OUT?

1. panel under the steering wheel was out

2. glove box with metal under was out.

3. center snap-on panel was out

4. cluster, transparent panel on top, and plastic button filled panel was out too

BUT, DASH STAYED ON HARD, AND I COULDN'T PULL IT. IS THERE ANY SCREWS UNDER THE WINDOW AIR VENTS??

Do you even need to take the dash out to fix the cluster lights?

yes there are screws under the defroster vents. what are you trying to do exactly ? change the bulbs to a different color for your cluster ?

or are they not lighting up at all ? if they arent lighting up at all, check your tcu...

I thought you didn't have to remove the whole dash to get to the cluster lights. If you want to get to the bulbs and the cluster itself, you can drop the steering column with a few bolts and get to it. If you need to get to the wires that feed the bulbs, you might be able to get to them when you take off that panel under the steering wheel. You would probably need an FSM to know which wires are which. But if you need to access the wires anywhere but there the dash likely needs to come off.

oh yeah, sorry i was very busy with "skool"

HERES WHATS HAPPENING:if it is cold or nightime, i have to turn on the lights of course.

when it is cold, whole cluster is off, even digital speedo. after car warms up for 5-10 minutes with heater on, digital speedometer comes on, but backlights on cluster might or might not come on.

if I tap on dashboard hard/easy, it comes on. if i hit a bump or brake hard, or accelerate, that may cause the backlights to come on or off.

So this tells me that it is a freaking wire connection problem. ==================================================

WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR:

i was able to get to cluster itself, i unscrewed the cluster, it comes out. I moved it out, but didn't take out the connnections on the back.

reason i'm trying to take the dash out, is to have more space to work with wires, and replace the part that has gone bad.

i had a thread on this, lemme see if i can find it to show you pics:here: http://www.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=92568

to take those vents off without snapping i used a tiny little flathead it was really small. like the size of those screwdrivers that you use to screw your glasses with.except it was flat.

and if you havent been to this website this might help out taking out the dash http://www.jdmrice.com/web/frame.htm

since i got all the pics and now i know how to take out the dash, i feel very comfortable on how to do it.

BUT I HAVE NO TIME. school is killing me and damn weather isn't helping either. below 30F all the time, and even in the garage its very cold.

besides unless you will help me with this project which is due next week: writing a program which decides Triangular Vertices from the data given, i simply cannot work on my car.

So probably i will be stuck with no cluster lights until sometimes March.

But once again, i'm very grateful for the info.
