Well, I'm not sure what kind of rattle this is, but the only rattle I hear (its more of a vibration), is actually in the vinyl in the dashboard (not where the windshield meets the dashboard). When its cold, it sounds like the vinyl is stretching or "squeeking" even as if you look closer at the dashboard, it is not one piece (its like 2-3 pieces, if you look at where the passenger airbag is located, you will notice several creases/join points). I suspect these pieces is where there squeeking is coming from, and appears to be a design flaw more than anything else (that is why when it is hot, people don't hear the rattle as much).

I looked at my highlander, and the dashboard is one piece, which is why there was no rattle coming from the front (although there were noise coming from the rear).

I have not yet heard any rattling or mechanical sounds in the doors.

Thought I had the dreaded dash rattle. I spent a week thinking #*$# I got the dash rattle. About a week went by, and I was trying to decipher where the rattle was coming from, passenger window? dashboard? passenger seat? glove box? shifter? Finally, I went and looked in the sunglasses holder, up by the reading lights. Yep, thats right, my sunglasses were rattling around in there, whew! I don't have the rattle but I will tell you I was pretty freaked out by the experience, so I can totally empathize with every body on this post.

The dash rattle just took up a home in my Versa for the first time since I bought it in November of last year. My only difference is the rattle has come when it got hot, not when it was cold outside. It seems to be coming from the passenger side airbag area. If I whack the front of the dash on the passenger side a couple of times it goes away for a little bit. I've tried the foam by the windshield but I don't think that is the issue as it is still there.

Seems like the airbag rattle is a completely different animal that the dealer can fix.

It could my ears, but it seems like I've noticed a rattle coming from the passenger airbag area. Has anyone else noticed this or brought it to their dealer?

Thanks.

Why is it that my [now] 2 year old V is giving me no problems at all?

I don't have no rattles or steering clunks or squealy brakes etc.

I haven't had any warranty claims. Just been in for routine service.

Guess you've been lucky. So far we've had; dash rattle, hood won't close, trim on windshield installed improperly, foot rest pad fell off and faulty fuel pressure sensor. I'm sure I've forgot something...

Found the rattle; it was actually my shades in the overhead sunglass holder.

*raises hand*

Got the rattle, unfortunately. I am trying to tough it out until next month, when my first scheduled maintenance is.

It's worse in the morning, cold 5am ones. And even worse when the car wasn't used during a weekend. I came back from work today though, and didn't hear a thing.

Mainly signed up to this forum because of the issue. I will be trying out the different ways to solve it, after the visit at the dealership.

Thanks.

Good luck. Since I rarely drive the Versa anymore, my wife does, I have learned to ignore the rattle when I do drive the car. So many little problems with it, a real shame.

Yes, they gave us the option of replacing the entire front section of carpet or just having it glued back on, we chose the glue. We went to a local upholstery shop and it was fixed in about 15 minutes at Nissan's expense.

Just got a 2010 Versa and I have the rattle.. You'd think they would have fixed it by now. Very disappointing. I told the dealership about it, they said they used to put foam on 2009 and before V but not anymore.. I'll try the foam solution you guys talked about.

It indeed seems to be worst when it's cold, but I live in Quebec, Canada.. so it's cold more than half the year..

It's the little things like this that makes you sort of regret buying the car.. :(

I put a rubber square right in the center of the dash closest to the windshield which causes the dash to get pressed down in the middle and dash rattles went away.

Yes, I read about this solution. I will def try it this weekend. Although the rattle in my V seems to be coming from the stereo & a/c control panel.. so I am wondering if my rattle is the same as everyone else since the noise isn't coming from the windshield.. I'll still try the foam and keep you guys posted.

I joined soley for this thread! I am going to go insane with the rattle in my '11 Versa S. This is my first ever new car purchase (I'm 18) and I've owned 13 cars (by choice not by wreck haha) and I'm a mechanic and none of them have ever had this rattle issue. Every time I go in to the dealer I am discounted about the rattle: "if we can't hear it we can't fix it." Of course they can't hear it... the roads I travel everyday are bumpy and the road at the dealership is not. I will be bringing in a print out of this thread for my scheduled appointment Monday morning. I'm not leaving until they take apart the dash! Any other suggestions from anyone about what I should do or say with the dealership. Just because I'm 18 doesn't mean you can tell me to leave, I paid 13,500 dollars for my versa! :nono:

Thanks!

I so know the feeling. It sucks taking time to go to the dealership to have them tell you it's normal and there's nothing they can do. Sorry but I paid good money and would like a car that's not irritating every time I drive it :P Good Luck!

I've had the car for about 3 years, the dash rattles when its cold. for some reason the front seats also squeak when its cold so its kind of irritating after a while. plus its rather embarrassing my friends 1988 honda accord is more quiet then my versa.

Hi!

I did try that but it did not work. But, I have been able to locate where the rattle is coming from and it seems mine comes from a different area. Maybe cuz I have a Versa 2010 ? They fixed one but created another?

Image

Any idea on how I could fix it? First of all, I made sure it was nothing inside the glove box that was rattling. The sound is very present when the car is cold and it disappear when it gets warmer.. I live in a cold climate so it happens a LOT.

Thanks!

yup, ours rattle also...
temps have been in the 20s and the rattle is there... even when driving around for a while it does not go away!
the rattle comes from the top center by the vent...

no biggie tho, between the radio and blower fan I really don`t dwell on it...

The salesperson that sold me the car called me last week asking why I hadn't answer the Nissan survey. I said I knew they really want us to give then 5/5 to everything (they told me repeatedly and sent me letters about it) and I told her I didn't feel as if I could do that considering I'm not 100% satisfied with everything. She asked about it and I told her about the rattle (among other things) and she said she'd see what she could do.

She called back and told me there is something to do about it, to just leave my car overnight so they can witness the noise while the car is cold.

I did so, therefore not having a car for one day which is a hassle. They don't lend a car, you have to pay for one. They witnessed the noise and apparently work 2 and a half hours isolating behind the dash, over the glove box and around the shifter. They said they isolated the friction points, whatever that means.

When I picked it up, it was all frozen inside (anybody have problem with the Versa and mist on the windows?), so I had to keep the ventilation at max which made it impossible to hear anything. This morning I tried it, it still rattles but it seems like it might not last as long as usual and maybe the rattle isn't as loud. I guess that's the best I can hope for. I've noticed my steering wheel seems to crack too. when it's cold but it doesn't last.

Sorry it was so long, but in conclusion, you guys could ask your dealership to take a look, it could help, but I doubt they can really solve the problem. Note that I asked once and they said they didn't do anything for this, so I dunno if the salesperson put pressure on the tech department or if the first time I talked to an incompetent guy..?

Sad part is that I very highly doubt an A tech or Master tech will be doing this kind of work. From past dealer experience, NO shop monkey ever touches my car unless it is a bonafide recall or issue. Hell they didn`t even install the carpet back correctly when doing the Fuel press. reg issue...
I had a friend of mine who was a B tech searched for a rattle in a cadilliac. it took him 9 hours to diagnose, remove the dash, find the cause and reinstall, and he got paid .9 hours for the job...

so none of those bafoons will be happy looking for something that the manufacturer should have corrected b4 the car came to market... just my .02...

and yes, I am very biased when it comes to what skills you have to work on my car...
fast in, fast out, get paid and the consumer has the same issue except the car has been disassembled and assembled again...

Your theory makes sense. This sucks though.

I don't see what good it does, cuz in the end the customer isn't happy. Ok, maybe I won't go back cuz I can't afford not having my car for an entire day like that too often, so they're rid of me. But I've only had the car 3 months and I'm already thinking of selling it when the 3 years warranty is up.. and I sure as hell won't go back to Nissan.. Sometimes I think they'd better invest in solving the problems..

hahaha...lol... Don`t you know that we the people are the guinea pigs for all industries... crap, they haven`t figured out most repairs and the cars still come to market and the technology changes so rapidly... where can the blame be placed, with Joe public of course, why? BC he needs dvd, GPS, rear view cameras, auto this and that, and the list goes on and on. instead of having smarter drivers they are making smarter cars for stupid drivers... we can talk about this till the cows come home... what ever happend to the days that we were just happy having a damn FM stereo in the car!!! hahahahaha

you think the auto industry is bad, check out the jet ski forums and see how the brand new machines are blowing rods thru the blocks with just 11 hours on the engine, or better yet, back in 2004 when i bought a seadoo GTX SC, and the supercharger clutch came apart and destroyed the 2 oil pumps, and my ski was down for a whole year bc BPR`s warranty sucks a** and you have to rub their balls to get any attention, still think the cars are bad, that ski cost 12,800 back in 04...

it is all over bro, the greed in america has forced this situation, and the middle class american pays for it all... oooof!

another friend of mine is a master tech at a Ford dealer and he HATES warranty repair, so what does that say!...
