hello, i have a 91 240sx coupe SE with the Heads Up Display(HUD) and when i go out to start it in the cold in the mornings, the HUD and the lights on the speedo and all don't turn on. only after i start driving for a while and all maybe 3-5 mins they randomly just turn on by themselves. my question is, is this common in the 240s with HUD and why is this happening only in the cold mornings and what can i do to fix the problem. thank you

it is typical with the digital dashes on the nissans. the control unit under the dash has some cold soilder joints most likely at the point where the connector fro the harness meets the circuit board inside. you can either touch up the soilder joints your self or go to an auto electric repair shop and have them do it if your not comfortable with soildering.

Vibration beyond oem standard while drawing current [units on solder warm] are the reason solder joints fail.........tire balance, weak shocks, worn bushings.

Many times - capacitors increase leakage current with age and temperature cycling over 10 years.........slower build up to proper operation.........especially units exposed to more than 12 volts [high voltage inverters for displays].
