I can find no clear answer in the forum for the following problem... I really need help to get this fixed.

I have recently fitted a new stereo in my friends 1995 Nissan Altima.

I cut the existing harness out and fitted the new harness for the new stereo. However, there was an extra wire (red with blue stripes), that didn't seem to map to anything.

So I attached it to the ground (black) wire for the new stereo.

However, now the dash lights do not work.

The indicator lights work, but the lights for the speedo, etc... do not.

Is this wire something to do with it?

I have check all the fuses and all seem to be fine.

Please help ASAP!

well first of all you should definately unhook those 2 wires. Hooking up 2 wires at random could be the end of your engine. If it's just a light problem, then it's not that serious. But the obvious thing is to unhook those 2 wires and try that.

ok well first thing you should do is undo the red with blue and cap it off,or simply tape it off. Then search your fuse box for the fuse and or fuses you blew and you should be good to go. The red with blue is illumination in case you were wondering.

I have checked every fuse under the steering column and they are all fine... should I be checking elsewhere? The lights still aren't working... The reason I attached the red/blue wire to the ground is because it suggests to do that in another forum post that I found (zerothread/202679)

Those are probably out too he just hasn't noticed. I've seen this problem before and it's almost always that the fuse is blown unless by grounding the illumination wire he shorted the wire itself.
