Since I became a member of this board, I've been seeing many people post messages about non functional dash/interior lights. 99% of the time this is a result of a stereo installation and messing up the illumination wires. Please take heed to the following wiring chart and pay careful attention to the wires you are NOT supposed to use. There are THREE of them.

If you have used any of these wires and you're experiencing these problems, the first step you should take is remove these wires, tape the ends off and leave the alone. From there the next repair would be the Dimmer switch and check the TCU for burnt soldered joints.

Hopefully by making people more aware during stereo installations, there will be less incidents.

Good luck.

hi u12,

do you know the colors of the 3 pins that shouldn't be used?I'm asking since the factory harness plugs are gone on my car... some wires touched each other & hence my light problem...

it's actually just two wires, but one wire is in two places. Red/Blue which is the illumination power (in two places, on the larger harness and on the smaller harness). Red/Yellow, which is the illumination gound, on the larger harness alone.

What's the TCU? I just got a 91 and the interior light does not work the fuse is good. Also, the door ajar light stays on all the time, I don't know if it's related but I'd like to fix that too if possible.

Thanks,

David.

TCU is the Time Control Unit. Basically controls the delay on your windshield wipers along with other stuff. located behind your left foot panel when sitting in the car on drivers side. Perhaps fixing the tcu will cure the door light problem.
