The first time this happened, I had a blown fuse. The second time, the relay located next to the fuse panel was bad. This thing also controls the wiper timing. You have to take the plastic cover out of the footwell (the panel that covers the fuse box) to get to the relay. Its a small white box maybe 2"x2" held on with a 10mm screw.

I discovered this out of dumb luck. I "borrowed" the one out of my friends car, and that seemed to do the trick.

While I had mine out of the car, I noticed a small brown spot on one side of the case. Curious George that I am, I disassembled the case and saw it was burnt out at one of the diodes. I can only assume one of the boards controls the lighting/dimmer and the other controls the wipers timer. Don't hold me to that, I am just assuming. So if you can get a hold of one from a fully working car, give it a try. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to switch out.

That I do not know.

Possible the bulbs are both burnt out? Its rare both headlights go out at the same time, but I can only imagine it has happened to someone.

You mentioned a sleepy eye kit. This may also be a part of the problem. Also, don't forget the fuse box under the hood. If you have a tangle of wires (wiring woes give me nightmares), you may have some leads to chase.

Good luck. Hopefully its something simple to resolve.

Nothing makes me want to Hulk smash, Hulk destroy more than wiring/electrical issues.

no its not lit up...and i checked all fuses again besides the relays cause those i dont know how to check none are blown... it cant be the switch for the headlights on the coloum cause they go into position just no light... and is the white relay a block with what almost looks like a bolt through the center?

and lastly theres no kit for the sleepyeyes. just the basic "Cut the brown on john thatle do er' "so i think the button might be broken.. cause it only pushes and pops right back out. isnt this button suppose to have 2 positions. in and out(the one on the dash ubove cruise control

No, there is no bolt thru the center. It slips onto a small metal L that is screwed into the door jamb. The relay itself is located in between the door and the main fuse block. I am holding one in the palm of my hand right now.

ok i got it out of the car and im holding it now. i started the car and everything is running the same. no changes. so im assuming this is the problem. now i just gotta get it swapped from the dealer. any idea on how much it might cost?...i only get dealer new parts cause its an old car its tired... so if i get new parts all the time then i think the problem will be a longtime returning. and maybe in 5 years it will be like a brandnew 240 also i cracked the case and inside it looks like the circut board connecting JP2 to R24S is burnt. what diode on ur old one was fried?

Its been a while, I cant remember. The one I have laying around I picked up at a salvage yard.(wipers work randomly at best) I do need to replace mine with a brand new unit though. I have not gotten around to looking up prices. The one installed on the car right now is from a friends wrecked car. I want to go new simply because this is another 15+ year old part. It works, but I would rather replace it before it fails.
