Dash Lights Don't Work

I have a 89 240sx that i bought a couple months ago and the dash lights don't work. I didn't really care about it at first but I'm about to take it to a mechanic but if i can fix it myself that would be even better.

My problem is, the dash lights don't even come on when i turn the lights on. but my friend installed my headunit and he was hooking everything up but there was a red wire back there that he didn't know what it was. the he connected it to the remote wire and then, bam the lights work. but when i turn my car off and then turn it back on the stereo doesn't work.does anyone know what the problem is? if so let me know so i can go ahead and fix it. So you're lights work now?? As for your stereo sounds like the constant wire and the accessory pwr wire are switched. It should be the red and the yellow wire. Just switch the two, hope he didn't solider, quick disconnects work much easier
