Are they all just LEDs? If they are, I'd like to change them to blue or red, just to match my stereo.

I suppose we'll find out soon enough, I'm going to venture into it tomorrow afternoon and see if I can figure anything out. Maybe I'll make another guide to submit to the forum.

UPDATE:

I got all of the panels off and I got the gauge assembly off. The faceplates for the guages wont come off because of the needles which are not detachable. I can see the LEDs but I'm not sure if they are replaceable or not, It looks as though they are permanently connected to the motherboard. Hmmm, has anyone tried this in another car?

'RE'-UPDATE:

I'm going back out to the abyss, it seems as though most other clusters have much easier access to the bulbs. This is going to be a PITA, but I'll find a way to get to the bulbs.

Disregard this entire thread. The LEDs aren't swappable, I messed up the needles on my gauges in the process of this project. It's no big deal because it's being fixed under warranty, but this was just a waste of time.

How you get warranty to cover your own tinkering?

When there's no evidence of tampering, they can't blame it on me even if they wanted to. All I said was that the needles dropped way below zero when I turned the car off and they stayed there, nothing more. The less I seem to know about the gauge assy, the better off I am.

smart way to go. easier to get what you want huh? thanks for the info thought now at least we all know if we want to get a new stereo, that we should get one that atleast can have changeable colors to match the V.

Yeah, that would be the easiest route.

Good, though, that Nissan decided to use LED's to illuminate the dash. That means we'll basically never have to replace them for burnouts.

one of my Kias had several dash bulbs burn out within 5k miles, so I went in and changed them all out. Changed them from blue-covered white to red... made the dash look evil.

Yeah, at least I can depend on the reliability until I can buy a swappable one.

The soonest appointment my dealer could give me was for the 12th.

I explained that I didn't know how fast I was going, and this is only for diagnostics, so chances are that I'll have to wait for any parts to be ordered as well. So now I'm stuck with faulty gauges for about two weeks and I have to take another 100 mile trip upstate next weekend. I guess it makes for a good excuse for speeding.

Just kidding...

Long drive upstate with no needles? not fun.Although it took me a while to realize..hey there's no temp gauge on this cluster. As for long drives. NYC-ROC every weekend. 350 miles each way...30.8mpg though!

It won't be that bad, I have a very good sense of how fast I'm going, I rarely have to look at the speedo especially because I don't drive excessively fast. I figured that if I read the kmph, it's about right, give or take 5 mph.

After doing a little research, I've decided that I'm going to keep the old broken cluster when I get my replacement. I'm going to perform a little surgery with my soldering iron. If I have any success, I will keep you updated.

I've seen people do it before on their motorcycles, all it takes is a careful mindset, a soldering iron, and some replacement LEDs.
