Hey i have a 97 y33 i was wondering if anyone else noticed this or if there car does this. If you have it floored through 1st gear and at the point it shifts into 2nd gear does your dash light up? Like the panel at the bottom that has all the redlight lights behind it. for example the battery light or seat belt light. When my first gear winds out to shift into second is when these red lights come on for a breief second until it shifts. Only happens if under full throttle.

Never heard of it.

Check your belt condition and tension. It must be glazed and slipping.

When was the last time and mileage (then and now) that you inspected and replaced them and the pulley bearings?

My mechanic inspected the whole car when i bought it so im assuming they were fine then at 99,300 miles becasue he didn't mention it and now im around 104,000 miles. I changed the knock sensors about 2k ago and the belts looked good then. And i retightened the tensioner too making sure the belt would be tight and not slip. How can i tell if the pulley bearings are bad?

I don't think it's all the lights. It's hard to say though because it only does it for about have a second right while it shifts. Maxnix idea does make sense to me. When its shifting into 2nd the belt may be slipping for a split second and causing it, but why would it cause the lights?

Is there a bad pulley? Could that bad pulley cause the belt to not spin enough, thus not adeqauately spinning the alternator? Or is the alternator going out and causing the lights to come on?

Hard to tell from my desk.

ever heard those cheap ugly cars that make a high pitch sound? lol ya youll notice, and by the way, the battery light won't come on right away if it was slipping, the battery light would only come on if the battery was getting low, soo the belt would have to be off for a good while before the light would come on,

One has to spin the pulley bearing unloaded. Any noise or roughness less than perfectly smooth is an indication of failure under loaded conditions.

Also, there was TSB concerning an alternator recall for the 1997 model. It is VIN specific and has been republished in a couple of previous threads on this board.

Bingo! that character probably reflects body trim of the model, which is irrelevant to the mechanical failure prompting the recall.

Good searching!

Also, there are a couple of posts on how to decode Nissan VIN, or email me for it.

Regarding this recall, the dealership should be able to tell you whether your vehicle was ever serviced or seen for this, correct? I don't recall seeing it in any of my admittedly limited paperwork.

Am I reading the flow chart correctly in that all alternators are replaced regardless of good/bad? That would be great since the dealer just told me my 98 Q's alternator is looking to be replaced eventually anyway, but I wonder if maybe they wouldn't have missed /forgotten this alternator recall issue? There's no statute of limitations on this is there?

Thanks.

/end threadjack, sorry

A base Q45 or regular Q45 is nothing special, but is the cheapest to maintain of the 3

A Q45A has fully active suspension see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_suspension

Basically it has the best suspension in the world or second best if Bose suspension goes main stream. But if the Active suspension is bad stay as far away as possible it may cost up to 30,000k to fully restore maybe less.

A Q45T has 4 wheel steering which makes passing and change lanes easier and faster but doesn't help you in parking or turning at a slow rat of speed.

For more information see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HICAS

And sorry for making fun of your post about the AWD Q45.

Well my vin did fit in between that range that you said maxnix. So i called Infiniti and asked them if they could tell me if it was allready replaced or not allready. i told them my vin and the lady said they have no record of that car at all. Not a record of it even being manufactured or sold originally.

Once you register yourself as the owner, then they will read you the car's Infiniti dealer performed service history. Also, you can infomr them of the other dealer's ignorance.
