dash cluster problem

I recentely got on this site and found a link to peel off the transparent paint on the LED's behind the dash panel. I did that but for some reason all my LED's went out. Has this happened to anyone trying to do this before. I just bought some blue LED's and am about to solder them on, but first I wanted to know if by peeling off what I did somehow broke the LED?
