Okay... '89 S13 is the car..

Now the problem.

Alright, so my cluster doesn't light up.. the only part that does is the clock.. and that's only when the running/headlights are OFF. My speedometer projection-onto-the-windshield (someone tell me what that's actually called, please?) doesn't come on/show up at night.

And my normal digital speedometer sometimes stays on for a few secs after I turn the car on before it shuts off.. so I have no idea how fast I'm going at any point in time! I definately don't need any tickets right now. I'm too broke to pay on after buying my car..

Is there like.. a short or something? A loose plug or wire? How much trouble would it be to install a new cluster or take out the one I have and look at the plugs?

Although if someone told me how to tell when I'm going approximately 40mph in 4th AND 5th gear on a stock KA eng. and stock transmission from the RPM gauge I may be able to live without a ticket until my cluster is fixed..

No idea what your problems are, because I fail at wiring, but the windshield thing is called a Heads Up Display.

Bad electrical components, old soldering, or loose wires are most likely.
