Yes, its a direct swap but you need the harness that goes from cluster to dash harness.

There are two harness on the HUD cluster. The main harness that Compact mentions runs from the cluster to the main dash harness and a smaller harness that runs from the cluster to the HUD unit on top of the dash. If you replace the HUD cluster with an analog cluster you simply leave the smaller harness unplugged as there is no place on the analog cluster to plug it in. The main harness is different between the HUD cluster and the analog cluster. That's why you want to get the harness that goes with the analog unit. You also want to make sure that the analog cluster you install comes from a car that has the same type of engine as your car. I'm guessing your car has a DOHC engine. You want a cluster that comes from a car with a DOHC engine. According to other posts in this forum if you match a DOHC cluster with a SOHC engine or visa-versa the tachometer won't register correctly.

There is no need to cut and solder anything so long as you get the harness that goes with the analog cluster like Compact says in his post. The harness for the HUD cluster and the analog cluster are different only where they plug into the back of the cluster. The other end of each harness is the same where they plug into the main harness under the dash. That's why you want the harness that goes with the analog cluster. I replaced the HUD cluster in my 89 coupe with an analog cluster. I made sure that I got the harness that went with the analog cluster. It plugged right in, no problem.
