Hi

I’m planning on mounting a dash cam (front and rear) on a 2011 QX56.

The issue is hiding all the wires. There are plenty of videos on YouTube, but none specific to the QX56.

All the videos seem to involve removing and then reinstalling the rubber weather stripping. I’m hesitant on pulling and prying without knowing what I’m getting into, and there is probably an air bag, either in the front left corner post or the roof area on the drivers left side.

There is a gap where the windshield meets the roof header, so that’s not an issue. The problem comes after that.

Can anyone suggest how to safely remove, and then reinstall the weather stripping and other internal plastic panels to hide the wires required to go front to back and to the area around the fuse panel?

Thanks

i think you asked this question on another forum i frequent...

what you should do is get the service manual and familiarize yourself with how to remove the panels. get a puller that pulls the panels off cars to help. amazon sells a set. they are plastic so they dont cause any damage.

if that is too much for you, let a radio shop do it.

i have 4 cams in my 2012 qx. i did not have to remove any panels but i did have to pry some at the rear 3rd row to hide the wiring. the wiring runs along the headliner and you just simply push the wiring up in there. i did not remove any side pillars as i did not want to fool with the airbags.

do you have a dashcam in mind? there are many to avoid.

Many thanks for this.

Decided on the Blackview DR650GW 2 channel.

If it can be done by gently prying at the panels, then that's what I'll do.

How did you handle the rear camera? Did you feed the wires through the black 'tube' grommet that connects the electricals to the tailgate? Is it easy to get into that?

Thanks

Hi LEXX,

ive a panrama X2. the rear cam is connected by one USB cable.

I ran it down under the kick panel at the base of the door where the illuminated infiniti kick plate is. pulled back the rear finisher and routed it that way.

the rear cam is just in front of the trunk lamp so when the rear gate opens, the rear cam does not "Face the sky". does that make sense?

i did not want to route the cable through the back trunk door...
