I just got my 91 q from getting the valve covers resealed and getting the spark plugs done, and everything was fine.

I dont drive the car much because my town is about five miles from one end to the next, but yesterday, I drove it about 60 miles.Everything was fine when I went to dinner, and then I drove it back home, and everything was fine again.

THis morning, I started it, and I heard a knocking noise/rattling noise. I opened it and everything looked ok. It was coming from the area around the plenum.

I decided not to even try to drive it. so I dont know if its at idle only. I put it in R and moved it about 1 foot, and put it in D and moved it forward 1 foot and it still knocked.

What could be wrong? This is something that I have to fix in the next week, and I dont know what I am going to do? My technician is not at work right now.

Is this a known problem? Is there something I can check?

one more thing. The first time I started it, I noticed that the oil light was on. It went away after a few seconds.

I checked the oil and it was full so I dont know whats up.

Who did your work?

It's not unheard of for techs, to mess something up on a car they are unfamiliar with.

Or , it could be your guides giving you a (rare) early warning.

give us as many details as you can think of.

Did your idle fluctuate at all?Any warning lights on?redescribe the noise as exactly as you can imagine.

Fred...:(

Valvetrain rattle perhaps. Sometimes due to oil starvation, but if the oil light went out and the noise was constant, then that's probably not it. Still, a few seconds is too long for the oil light to stay on. How long did you have the car running before shutting it off? Since you're hearing it from the plenum, I have to wonder if it's intake valve related. Q45Tech has mentioned that the #2 lifter is prone to collapse on some of the Qs he's seen. Hard to say if it's related to the work you had done since you did take the care for a long drive.

here is some more information. I doubt that it will be of any help.

A local mechanic did the work on the valve cover gaskets and spark plugs.

The idle is the same place it always is and its regular. There are no warning lights on at all.

I drove the car around the parking lot tonight and it drove fine. I was under 10 miles / hour though.

the noise is not a very loud noise. It sounds like a piece of metal knocking against another one. I am almost certain that it gets faster with increase in rpms.

Another thing I noticed this evening. Usually, when I start the car, there is a wierd sound. Hard to describe, but in the cabin it sounds likea light scratching. Maybe a pump. Anyhow, today it did not go away like it usually does.

yesterday, I let my fuel level readout get to E, then I filled it back to full with 93 octane gas. I was wondering if this could be a problem letting it get so low, even though the manual says that there is still some reserve when it reads Empty.

My best guess is one of the many dry hoses in the plenum area was broken when the valve covers were resealed. The tech probably patched it somehow, but the fix didn't last very long. You could try spraying WD 40 in the plenum area and see if the noise changes or the leak shows in the spray.
