My power steering fluid looks dark to me at 24k miles. It also is on the add line.

I have a syphon pump to extract the old fluid. What do you guys think about changing it myself??

I sucked out mine and replenished with some royal purple synthetic....need to do it again at the next oil change.

Actually, it turns brown much quicker if you tend to push your car. It most likely goes hand in hand with transmission fluid, which turns color quickly if you race, push your car hard or use the transmission to slow down a lot. Mine remains reddish, even at 42K miles, but then again, I drive like an old man in a hat (and I have a very good sense of my own mortality). Changing it yourself should be no problem at all.

I think syphoning some out and replenishing it is a good idea.Don't know if you really need to at 24K, but it can't hurt.I've done the same before.I would also check for a leak.
