I wanted to update everyone to show that I've been hard at work after having to pull the entire motor and take it apart to resurface the block. I figured that would be a good time to build the bottom end, so I bought RB26DETT rods and CP forged (86mm) pistons, magnafluxed and micropolished the crank, added a JUN oil drive collar, balanced the rods/pistons, installed a Tomei oil orifice (1.5mm) and blocked the front oil feed, installed new HKS cams and Tomei valve springs, new Cometic head gasket (lets hope this one seals or I'll burn their office down ), OEM gasket kit, N1 oil pump, OEM water pump, and a bunch of other miscellaneous shyte I don't feel like typing out. You get the picture.

I am going to have to post the pics as attachments because the gallery is giving me some ghey thumbnail error when I try to upload them.

Did it! I drove it last night and let me tell you, those HKS cams make the exhaust about twice as loud. I'm not complaining, but it really thumps. My exhaust hangs so low and the road construction near my house makes it a challenge to get out without scraping. Plus after having the thing in the works for two years I'm a ***** about actually driving it. The only issue I see at the moment is the exhaust tip knocking against my bumper because of my misalignment when I created the test pipe. Other than that, the motor runs great.

Carl H - Those are ARP main bolts and rod bolts. No plans for external oil return yet. I haven't really looked into it since I installed the oil restrictor and blockage. I figure that should solve the problem at its source.

Shocker - I am planning on running the stock turbo and intercooler etc. until I get used to driving it, the motor is broken in, and I save up some cash for a new setup. In a year, I am planning on doing fuel, turbo, intercooler, external WG, blow thru Q45 MAF, PFC, FMIC, and all that fun stuff. Looking for about 500 hp maybe a pinch more.

Hey just a heads up on the Q45 MAF. With Blow-Thru it makes the car run really, really rich. I'd set it up normal, unless you got a balklin' *** tuner. I was running blow thru not too long ago on my RB25 and its no different than have the MAF on the turbo. I'd got a 3Bar MAP Sensor and call it a day. Looks good btw can't wait to see more!

BTW - What size cams did you buy?

I think Darius is gonna set the MAF up the same way I did. Q45 Blow-through. Since he's also planning a PFC it's a piece 'o cake to tune the car on the street, especially with FC Datalogit software. I'm currently running a sweet air/fuel ratio all the way to redline and getting 25mpg at cruising speed with only 5 sessions with the Datalogit software.Throttle response is much better with the MAF so close to the TB also. You know Darius likes his bling, so he wants that sweet Atmo BOV sound too. LOL

hahahaha yeah I like my bling so much that I would recirc my aftermarket BOV and retain my stock sidemount IC if I could

I have pics of the motor installed but I haven't gotten a chance to get them uploaded from the camera. I think you guys will like those just as much.

Chaos and Krayton - the cams are 256 duration 8.9mm lift I believe. I got them from Nengun.com because I was buying a ton of other stuff from them at the time and they had the best price. I think the cams were $380 each and the springs were like $120 or something.

I finally took it on the road this afternoon and drove in some traffic, (got the air bubble out of my master cylinder Chad) I don't know if my tach is off or what, but I can hear the turbo start to spool up at 2000 rpms. Is that normal?

Thanks for the compliments. There's still more to come.

I've ordered a couple of times from them and their turnaround is a week and shipping takes about a week and a half to two weeks. They have good prices because they don't jack up the price like US companies do to cover the additional shipping charges plus make a profit. They can ship directly to you and you save money vs. buying from a US based shop.

I put the cams in after I tore the thing apart for the third time. The only real difference that I could notice is the sound of the exhaust note. It has a more distinct pulse and is definitely louder.

About the boost thing, so when I'm going down the highway at 70 and creating boost, is that normal too? Seems like you wouldn't want to be building boost unless you put the pedal down.

Darius, If you have a Pod Filter the compressor is noticeably louder, air is just rushing inside, creating that shhhhhhh sound when on the peddle, if you have a boost gauge hooked up watch it, it will make that noise even in vacume under slight accelleration in top gear while cruising. It takes about 1/3 1/2 peddle to create boost. But gasmilage isnt bad if your at cruiseing. I drove 380 miles on a tank before with my 25, was all freeway but pretty damn good. Granted I hit WOT only like 3 times the whole trip.

Congrats Matt. Good to see it finally together. How did you shop put the collar on? Only directions I can find are in Japanese and dont help me any?

Good to see you went with the King Bearings. Drive that thing everywhere to break it in so you can take it to a track somewhere to show what those cams really help you with.

I brought the JUN instructions into the machine shop and apparently the symbols they use to describe what to do are universal. There are numerical dimensions on there as well that help them understand. My guy said it was no problem for him and it turned out fine.

yaya powahz.i would get a z32 maf instead of a q45, it has a much finer resolution compared to the q45...better for tuning.

Ok guys. Here are the pics of the engine bay as I promised. The wiring on the passenger side of the motor still needs a little organizing, but I can do that when the car is stored over the winter. For $9000 in parts, the thing looks stock.
