I came across this video looking for an adapter for a jack stand for another vehicle of mine. I found it interesting and it's moving me to go out and buy new jack stands seeing the mechanics of things and after an experience I had a few months ago. I also never paid attention to that the weight capacity was usually for the stands combined...not each smh. All I used to be concerned about was weight support. thought it may be prudent for others to see it as well, if you may need to change out your stands for one reason or another. If you have input or other sources, please share.

I think the lesson here is that even cheap jackstands all far exceed their weight rating in crush tests. I'd expect that, since any prudent manufacturer rates their stuff for a worst case with a wide margin, not for the absolute maximum. Regarding tipping, gravity, mass, and geometry are what they are. No stand is designed to withstand unchocked wheels or a sideways hurricane, but if you need to worry about it, wider is better. The China-cheap sheet-metal stands in the first vid are the only ones I'd personally refuse to work with.
