Well I took of on Thursday off so I can do my head lights and unfortunately, the headlight gods were not smiling at me. First off, my POS oven was too small for my headlight to fit in diagonally. Hell, my daughter's easy bake oven probably would have done a better job than my Jen-Air Anyway, so I decided to try it with the heat gun.....YEEEAAAAAH..big mistake. After I few inches of trying to pry the damn thing open and the housing starting to disform I decided to back out and accept my failure. I started to put back my fascia and when I had it all back on I was looking at the head lights. That's when it dawned on me I immediately took off the fascia again and started my brainstorm! The below are the results!

Here it is at night with just the park lights.

And with the HIDs on

I'll do a full right up on the install in another thread in the exterior mod section so you guys who like can do the same thing.

Hey Dangeris what did you use to make the LED strip??

Also is it just R8 not RS8, I know the S6 also has the leds in the same place on the headlights.

I used oznium's flexible LED strip. I'm working on the "how to" now.

hmm I wonder if there's anyway to wire it up to both the turn signals and park lights.... That would look HOT to have it light up when turning!

Sure but I'll have to do that tomorrow. They're really not that visible at all...that is until you turn them on.

Funny that you say that because i was going to do that. Be even better if you can make the LEDS go sequentially to right or left if you hook them up to the signals. This is what I initially thought of doing...

doing the lights the way I did but the last 4.5" those LEDs would be amber and hook those up to the Signals and the white LEDs to the park.

If you want to do that, go for it but you'll need to post up some vids so we can see the hottness!!!!

heh I'll have to see how hard it is to remove and bake the headlight! I've never done anything like that before...but I'd be interested in trying to hook it up to the turn sig and parking light both. I currently have white LED turn signals in the front...so maybe all you need to do is tap into that.

edit: oh, it looks like you dont need to bake the headlight...hmmm I wonder if the light will fit though, since mine's OEM bumper

Yes I'm a mod, I also handle the articles for Nico for all the forums. How to's, Reviews, Tests, that kind of thing. I format all that into legible and professional formats for them to be published in their final positions.

Also, Dangeris, this article has been completed and credited to you. It will be up on the permanent "How To" page shortly

Thanks Blake, although it's cool that its being credited to me, i really have to give credit to NICO. Without this forum, my mods or anyone's mod wouldn't be anything. Here's to NICO!!!!

BTW, hows the turbo coming along? I'm sure it'll be sick!

Yeah,..in the engine bay fuse box there is a 10amp fuse that is labled "DTRL". Then i started thinking, does the coupe have DTRL? I've never seen one?

I took the fuse out and with a volt meter, I measured the current on both sides of the fuse. With the ignition on or off, Its measuring 12.5volts. needless to say if I hook it up directly to that, the LEDs would be on constantly. The only place i found ignition power is in the cabin fuse box to the cigarette lighter fuse but not really feeling drilling thru my firewall to run a wire.

Somewhere in our engine bay, there HAS to be a wire that goes on and off with the ignition....but where?

factory fascia, it doesn't look like it fits too well on the stillen fascia, isn't it bowing up on the corners?

IDK, just looks ehh, to me... I think it would look cleaner if it were inside the housing, but to just stick some LED strips outside the housing and jam it in between the headlight and the front bumper... ... nowhere near as clean as grystrm's!

NICE WORK DANGERIS!

If you hooked a sequential relay to it (like the mustangs do to get the 1 2 3 brake light up) i think its possible, it would def need some trial and error work though.

Also, Adidas is not a mod, he is a glorified librarian, and is required to wear those weird strings holding his reading glasses around his neck.

Yeah well since i couldn't open up the headlight housing and didn't feel like buying new $900 housings just in case it didn't open right, this accomplishes what I wanted to do in the first place. Yes Grystrm's lights might look cleaner, you have to remember, that he's still working on the prototype. He hasn't even tried cracking open the "real" ones yet. And with the hard silicone that Nissan is using, I feel that this will lend to different outcomes when it comes time to opening up the lights. One might open easy while the other one might not even budge.

Is it bowing in the corners you asked? Yes it is but very slightly. Not so bad it's blatant. The fascia has NEVER sat right ever since it was installed anyway. I even went as far as replacing the factory side clips on both sides that the fascia slides into but it still works its way out and I have to keep pushing it back in.

Besides, I've thought out and planned out everything I've done on my coupe and if merely slapping on LEDs underneath the headlights looked like $hit, trust me, I wouldn't have gone forward with the mod I like how they look and apparently, so do others.

Someone asked for me to post up pics of how it looks in the day to see how subtle the LEDs look. Well here they are. I don't think you'd even notice them unless they were on.

folks may think it looks good, but that's because many don't know the difference between LED and HID....but IMO, it just looks ehhh...

the lights are too close together, it makes it kinda look like christmas tree lights, and the bulge on the corners is a little more than "slightly noticeable"

and let's not be coy and say you planned this out, this was a second choice since you didn't successfully open up to the headlights...

I'm sure other folks will jump on this because its a cheap and easy mod, but its just not a clean mod, and I really would have expected more from you given the rest of the time and thought you put into your coupe...

To each his own, I just think with a little more brainstorming, you could have done better...

por ejemplo,

looking at the Audi S6 in the pic above, a similar setup on your Stillen Fascia with similarly spread out lights would look more OEM, and would be cleaner... again, jumt my .03, and it doesn't particularly count for much, but just as other folks have freely expressed how much they like it, I feel the exact opposite!
