Well after sitting in my driveway and replaceing my lower passenger side ball joint so my car would pass inspection, i slid under to take a look around to check for any oil leaks ect. While under i noticed i was missing 2 studs on the front manifold and one on the rear. I took it to a buddy of mine at Meineke and was told that mine wernt missing but broken off and it was a common prob with Nissans. Is that so? Im told, and this is by several shops, that they will have to send the headers to be machined incase of any warpness + the removal and replacment of the studs and all is going to run me around $375. Seems that everytime i get some friggin $$ i gota fix ****!!! As of right now there is no sounds or signs of any leaking but i know i need to get it fixed before there is. Anyone else have this issue with there Nissans?Sorry for my little vent but it was needed lol.

The 89-94 Maxima's with the VG had major stud issues. For some reason Nissan used a low quality stud. The majority of the 3rd gen VG guys will go through some studs. The new studs have been improved but it will definitely suck to get them out.

I've seen one recommendation of using a MIG welder to weld some material onto the stud to try backing it out. Since the heads are aluminum, the metal won't weld to it but you still have to be sure not to put too much heat into it.

Another option is to try drilling a hole in the stud and using an E-Z Out. You can also just completely drill out the stud and either re-tap for some fresh threads or use heli-coil inserts.

Yeah i asked them about drilling and EZ outing and they said it was not a good idea. The said they would have to weld a bolt head to them and then turn them out. Hopefully with the new studs its something i wont have to worry about again anytime soon.

Studs from the TT? are better I understand from doing some web surfing. I agree some issues on today's cars are very frustrating. It seems as though cars today are designed to be money pits. And, because they are so mechanically and electrically complicated, only pros can remedy most issues. I hope the next generation of cars and hybrids are more reliable and easier to work on.
