GRRR

Since I *tried* to do my headgasket awhile back my car is still not running

now... today... set it to TDC, lined up the distributor with the small indent (believe that would be spark1) and inserted it straight back into the head. bolted the top 3 10mm on the valve cover and plugged in the distributor wires to the plugs....

while my bro was cranking the engine I was turning the distributor and all of a sudden... KABLAMO!... there is smoke.. or sort of smokish substance coming out my cold air.

I'm starting to think I put the cams on wrong and the exhaust shot out the intake valves.

anyone have any ideas?

I'm seriously thinking of taking out another credit card and just buying an SR and swapping it. I've been without wheels for since before december now and this is really getting to me.

The local nissan shop told me that if they were to fix it they would go right down to the head again and start from there... costing prolly around $1400 cdn. I'd rather spend the $2k and buy the SR... or is this not feasible.

ARG! help me 240 gods!

First off, did you match up the two little dots on cam gears (one dot on each gear) to the two shinny links on the chain while it's top dead center and properly inserting the distributor in? If not, there's your problem. If you comletely removed both chains then you are in bigger trouble. Let me find some info and I'll post up exactly how to realign your timming chain with your main pulley and cam gears.

I took off th camshaft chain... I took the timing chain off and set it on the head like such:http://photos.yahoo.com/craigods/view file 100_0870

I'm starting to think the chain might have moved over a tooth or two when i strapped it back onto the head and therefore my cam timing would have automatically been out right?

now assuming it was out of place that would have bent my valves meaning I would need a valve job and whatnot wouldn't it?

SR it is, if I can convince my dad to let me... still under his reign even though its my money... er my loans... guess he's just being a dad.
