Only the seller and Ebay can erase bids. If the buyer has a legitimate reason then Ebay MIGHT allow them to use the bid retraction option.

I wonder what happened that they allowed so many people to retract bids? Must be a load of rich idiots thought they were getting something else.

Anyway... if the guy still goes on Letterman it will be interesting to hear the reasons.

A bid of $90,000,000 was placed to see the highest bid then quickly retracted......I made a mistake!!

I retract bids all the time just to see what the highest bid is.

Doesn't that make you look bad?

I mean... it doesn't lower your feedback rating or percentage, but it records how many bids you've retracted and displays them in your user profile. I wouldn't buy from someone who had a crap load of retractions.

its not a crap load, and i don't do it on every auction.

Right now I have 2 bid retractions in the last 6 months. I've been kind of dormant.

I could care less about buying from someone with bid retractions rather cautious about a bidder with a 'crap-load'.

Well,

with small stuff, the user rating doesn't mean a whole lot to me... but I still read all of their negative feedback. But for "big ticket" items, even if the user has 100% positive rating I wouldn't buy if they had retractions. It feels too much like abusing the system...

But... I've also been burned twice by non-paying bidders. Your bid is a binding contract to buy if you win... I guess I take that more seriously than others.

You can also just maintain two ebay accounts, one for tomfoolery like his "bid to find real top bid" stuff, and one for your actual buying/selling.
