This is the most lovely machine with the most gawd awful oil dipstick location/method.

When pulling the dipstick out it caught onto one of the flanges of the guide posts that help guide the stick into its infernal hole. Now this flange is blocking the reentry of the stick into the hole!!%^%@#$#$#!! Gonna' have to take off the air cleaner manifold to get at bending it back out of the way. What a pain in the a**!!!

Sorry to hear about your troubles, mate. As I'm sure you already know, the dipstick is not all that easy to re-insert even without any interference from the flanges, LOL. I know without a doubt that there is a group of very small, very intelligent, talented Japanese engineers sitting in their break room, having a laugh when someone mentions us trying to check the oil level, change a headlamp, etc. I can hear them now: Wait till a big American tries to get to THIS part ! HA HA HA HA

DJC, in the future could you please PM that question to the user (in this case Larz)? This way, the thread topic stays on topic. Much appreciated, thank you :)

Antz, welcome back? I haven't seen you post in a long time. Yeah, the dip stick sucks, I haven't even bothered with the M56 because I assume it's just as bad. I just change my oil sooner than most and don't worry about consumption.

lol Larz @ the engineers bit.

The oil dipstick in the 06 M45 isn't too bad (you need to keep it oriented in the right direction because it goes around a bend, but it's easy to remove and re-insert) in spite of the fact that the one in the 06 M35 obviously is, so regarding the M56, I'd say pull it out at least once just to see.

Hey guys! I've been silently lurking less and less for the past year. That damn machine of mine just keeps working perfectly (except for the oil spout) and it's hard for me to relate to all the new model chat and modding. But, I'm still here.

I'd really love to spring for the latest model with all the bells and whistles. But because my M works and rides and performs so well, my wife would never allow me to trade it in, nor would I, I guess. I'm kind of emotionally attached to the old lady.

Good to hear from you mates tho! I'm still here tho; silent but deadly...
