Alright so the verdict is in, I officialy love this car. This car being a 1991 240SX Coupe SE model With about 170,000 Miles on it. My specific vehichle is black with the KA24DE, 5 Speed, no sunroof or moonroof, PWR windows, PWR Door locks, PWR Mirrors, no hicas, A.B.S. or L.S.D., Front windshield heads-up display and cruise control. I must say I am from the south were if it doesn't have pushrods it isn't a sportscar. But it seems I was born in the wrong part of the world, I was captivated with the Japanese sports cars ever since I first played Gran Tourismo about 6 years ago. Ever since then I wanted a sport compact of some sorts. I knew I didn't want a Honda from the get go, to many people have them and I wanted something a little less mainstream. My first car was an 87 Maxima V6 GXE. I fell in love with that car despite it having an annoying habit of coming around on the unsuspecting driver with drop throttle oversteer. But unfortunatly that car had a quarell over the same peice of tarmac as a Dodge Ram...The Ram won. and so I moved on and got a 96 Olds Cutlass 2DR Coupe, I was impressed with its very nuetral handeling and its smooth power delivery. but its lack of aftermarket suport, its undue heft (3350 lbs), and its rather wimpy 160HP out of a V6 left me wanting more.. MUCH more. So the quest was on for the sport compact of my dreams. I drove a friend of mines V6 98 Camaro, still to heavy but I did like the rear wheel drive and the 5 speed (both the Maxima and the Cutlass were AT). So now I knew I wanted to find a rear wheel drive car preferably under 2700 lbs. and as AE86 Corrolas are rare birds here in the states the 240 was my next option. My only qualms were that niether one had a V6, having had two cars with V6 power I liked the low RPM torque delivery and the smoothness of the engine.. (I still think the VG30E is one of the best engines ever made). Well I hunted high and low but could never find a 240 with a 5 speed relitivly cheap. (I'm no millionare). Until about 2 weeks ago. in the midts of all the GM and FoMoCo vehicles I found my 240 for the low low price of $2,998, I wanted it to be about $2500 we settled on $2600. I was scepticle at first but then a test drove it...WOW... It has some really cheap Viper tires on it so its has a slight vibration and traction is very limited. but other than that it is a ver solid car no oil leaks or smoke. This car is amazing, power is available from 1500 RPM all the way to the 7200 RPM rev limiter. the shifter has a shorter throw than the B&M Short Shifter in my friends Camaro, the diference in weight between the 240 and the Cutlass is amazing, it feels like driving an RC car. The handleing is very good even with 25 dollar tires, though some of the fun starts to dissapear when you get it sideways and try to steer it around using your right foot without an L.S.D. gracefull recovery from a slide is very hard to acheive. But my conclusion is this car is f-ing awesome even bone stock. My future plans include Ground Control coilovers using KYB AGX shocks, Suspension Techniques anti-sway bar kit, NISMO front underbrace. Not sure if I want to go with NISMO bushings for the TC arms or just go with the JIC TC arm,. The OEM rolling stock will get tossed in favor of ROTA Circuit 8 wheels (16" weighs 13.5 lbs. and Falken Azenis ST115 tires. I also want to install a JDM S13 front end conversion as it will shave another 27 Lbs. from the fron end. I also am working on designing a rear strut brace with a built in battery box for relocating the battery to the back directly inbetween the shock towers for better weight distribution. Any real advice this community can give me would be greatly appreciated. anything pertaining to what I can expect to break and how to prevent it is also welcome. Ricers need not apply, only racers.
