What a bummerI got a speeding ticket near my old high school. I got clocked in at 50MPH in a 35MPH zone. I don't even think I was going that fast. weird thing is the cop was going the opposite direction of me and was pretty far away. I even saw him turn into the high school and reverse out to go behind me. How the heck did he see how fast I was going??!??! I mean..if I saw him clearly go in and out of the high school parking lot, doesnt that mean I was pretty far away from him?? I know for damn sure I wasn't going 50MPH when I passed him. Anyways...any suggestions/stories about getting out of a ticket?

Oh..and he asked me what kind of car I was driving when he was writing the ticket. No altima on the back...I should have told him it was a GTR or something

You should have asked him to show you the radar and the speed you were going, dont just go by his word,

if its your first ticket give it to your traffic lawyer first time, usually gets free no points

Did he show you his speed gun and prove that you were going 50 ? or he just came up and told you that you were doing 50 in 35 ? You're looking at around $350 + traffic school or 450 for the bail. I just got mine a month ago lol

thing is with the radar gun thing, cops now days have to take a class to be able to know how fast someone is going just by looking at the car. supposedly, if they cant pass that test (be within i think 5 mph of the actual speed) then they cant be a cop or something.... i thought it was BS and wouldnt hold up in court if it wasnt on radar but it seemed like the judge trusted that maybe even more then a radar.... i usually just plead not guilty and pray the cop doesnt show up. if he does your pretty much f***ed for the most part. but if he doesnt you get to walk away as if it never happen ......but usually the cops do show up

Im not familiar with the traffic law in CA, but here in NY a cop cannot turn around while they are driving in the opposite and pull you over.

08coupedriver: It was my first ticket...so really didn't know what to expect. At first I thought the cop was just checking my license and registration. Thats what I usually get pulled over for. BUT when the guy was like..ill be back with your ticket I was like WTF?? Ill be sure to ask if i get pulled over in the future *knocks on wood*

legend_217: What did you do with your ticket? Did you contest it???

Hussain: What happens if they do show up after I contest it? I really want to because I can pull some reasons out of my a**...but I really dont want to waste time and go to court and crap. My sister just wrote a letter of appeal and they just refunded her ticket. No court appearance or anything.

losenone: Can anyone confirm this??? If it's a law in california, then I might have something to work with!

Thanks for the help guys! Go NICO

Yea man, trust me, your first ticket you'll get off with a lowered ticket price, no points, and a happy ending,

just go to court, be nice to the judge, and tell them what happened,

hopefully the cop wont even show

take a chance, and go out there

good luck

HAHAHAHAHA who told you that? Id like to see what the cops who HAVE ALREADY pulled me over by turning around would say if I told them they arent allowed...

The bottom line is always go to court, with heavy pockets... pay fees to avoid pts and the insurance monster

The accused has the right to face the accuser in court, so if the cop doesn't show, you win and the ticket is dismissed. Also, if you contest a ticket, even if it's your 5th ticket (had a rough driving record as a teenager), and the cop DOES show, the prosecuting attorney, will still most likely offer you a settlement of like 9 over or whatever it is for your state to avoid giving you points on your license and a lowered fine. I've also beat a reckless driving ticket for excessive speeding by giving an attorney $100 to get it turned into a faulty equipment ticket. I didn't have to go to court because I was in a different state. The attorney went and represented me. I just paid my fine the court faxed me afterward for "faulty equipment." It was like $130 including the court costs. Reckless driving is punishable by jail, so $230 was definitely worth it. I recommend calling around to some attorneys and see what some of them will offer you.

I figured out what my sister did to contest her ticket. Looks like she just went to her appointed court date on the ticket and requested a Trial by Written Declaration (CVC 40902). From there she just explained her reason to the judge via mail and the cop just didn't respond back. I guess since he didnt respond the case was dismissed.. no court appearances or anything. Has anyone contested a ticket this way before?

I mean this is my first ticket so it's not like i have any kind of record. I just dont want my insurance to go up because its gonna be a pain. I dont care about going to traffic school if it comes down to it.

Google will return numerous ways to beat a ticket in Cali. It depends on your insurance company whether or not your insurance will go up for a reduced ticket. Allstate only raises your premium if it's an accident or if it puts points on your license. At least, they do if it's NC.

yaaaa cops do a lot of stuff they are not allowed to. does anyone in Cali remember that law passed that cops are not allowed to engage in a high speed pursuit if the person has not committed a felony? lol right after that law was passed several cops did it anyways and when interviewed by the news station they said they are currently looking to see if the person has any felonies.... its s***ty but you know what, they ARE the law. they make idiotic laws to the point where most police officers dont follow them unless they want to pull you over and search you. the system just continues to become worse and worse i mean whats the big deal if someone goes a little over the speed limit? and to the people who will say that at higher speeds, worse things can happen, i highly doubt a big rig semi going 35 MPH could stop as fast as a Ferrari going 50 mph.... their are soooooo many different vehicles on the road with different capabilities and it serves no safety purpose to govern them by a universal speed limit....

sorry to go so far off topic with my rant.

What you guys don't seem to understand is that the Police Car can radar on coming cars too. He was radaring as you were coming at him. Gene

This is true as a cop can pretty much clock you as soon as he can see you. This would explain why you saw him pull in the parking lot and turn around.

pledge not guilty and make an appointment with the court. Few days before the court day, call court clerk and extend your due date to several months. I can guarantee you after that long period time that cop will not know who the f*** are you and what's the heck he dealing with. Eventually, the chance he will not show up in court is 90%. Good luck bro.

i just got a 50 in a 35 myself. difference is they had changed the speed limits on me without putting up any notification that they were going to be doing so. which kinda ticked me off. cop asked why i was doing 50 in a 35 and i said "do whaaaaa this is a 45?!" "nope" he says. "this is a 35 now." and points to a sign down the road. they can clock you from a distance tho. so if he was driving and then turned around after you passed him then he prolly clocked you before you slowed down. only way i can see it contestable is if they clocked you from such a distance that you were still in another speed zone before entering a reduced speed zone. the only way i believe they aren't supposed to be clocking while driving is if they were using a certain model of genesis radar while driving a crown vic. because the alternator from them emits a certain frequency that mess with tht radar

in a worst case, if you lose, you still can ask the judge to lower your ticket because you're a full time student ...blah...blah......My uncle did that and the judge took 50% off his original ticket.

That ticket wouldn't have happened if you had the Beltron STI detecter I have and it finds them front.back, and sides with plenty of time to slow down. would have picked him up a 1/4 away. the best their is .

holy s***- 300+ are u guys s***ting me?

i got a 15 over the other day, and on my court date, pled not guilty of course- and was reduced down to a parking ticket at 140 bucks. no points. no school.

i've gotten so many tickets- and my driving record is still clean. no points best one ive had was 42 over lol :P try that on for size- (that one i did have a lawyer for tho lol- i loved him- it was a 200 fine-parking ticket and school LOL and no points)

but ya- the one i was goin 15 over on- i had the same instance- it was a state trooper comin at me an i didnt think twice about it- but theres some sort of radar gun that measures oncoming s***- sometin made by cobra- i know that cus i looked it up- and on the ticket it will also tell u the make/model of the radar gun they used on u- so u can google it as well and tell if it doesnt have oncoming indication- u can fight it if u really want to

i think it depends on the town and whether it is residential or not. earlier this yr i got a 40 in a 25 (i dont think i have ever had a speeding ticket tht wasnt 15 over. lol) but it was 215 and this last one is 138. 40 in a 25 was in a residential area. it sucked too bc i had been trying to avoid speeding since i had passed a trooper up on the interstate doin about 105 2 days earlier (thankfully an 18wheeler was in the way) so i had been trying to watch my speed. well i turned on this little road and before i knew it i had hit 40 and i went to slow down then realized there was a popo sittin on the side of the road up ahead.. sucked lol.

Dang guys...your tickets are expensive! I live in Ohio, got pulled over going 41 in a 25 (oops) and my ticket was only 105. no school, no court, just paid it over the phone and was done with it.

when you go to court, ask to see the papers from the day he pulled you over..what u want to have, is a copy of the calibrations on the radar. every radar needs to be calibrated before every use. So if it wasnt calibrated, your already free from the ticket.i know this because i fought a biiiig 80 in a 45 speeding ticket, and i won!!!

just ask for all the papers from that morning before he went patroling.
