Okay, so.

For the last 3 months, my fans have been wired to a switch in my interior.Hot wire has a fuse in it and runs from fans-switch-battery.Ground goes straight to battery. It ran fine until last Saturday night the fuse blew, my switch MELTED, and my sr nearly over heated.Now...when I put a fuse back in...the fans start and immediately blow the fuse again. I doubt the fans run for a whole second before they fuse blows. What is wrong? And better yet...does anyone know somewhere else I can wire these to that comes on with the key? I'm tired of the toggle switch in my interior.

What brand of fan are they? It's likely the fan itself has failed and is causing your meltdown issues.

Flex-a-lite...220? i think.

Dual fans.

Anyway okay I resolved that issue...I put a 30amp fuse in and it doesn't blow it.And I think, THINK this is what caused the problem. There is a ground on my toggle switch that is PRIMARILY for the led light. I think it came loose..touched a hot wire, and blew the fuse by the battery.I think I may just switch the wires...and put the toggle switch on the ground for the fans insead of the hot wire...unless someone knows a good place to attach to a switched wire. So far the only thing I have found is the windshield wiper motor or the ACC fuse in the fusebox. They're both switched but I'm not sure if there will be enough power to operate both my fans and the wipers/air.

Any ideas? Or should I stay with the toggle switch and just use the ground instead?

almost 100% when a fuse blows, there is a short to ground.

When a fuse blows, more current than the fuse can handle is flowing through the circuit. A short will definitely do that, but a pair of fans that draw 25 amps will also pop a 10amp fuse.

make sure your switch is rated to handle the current that the fans draw.. Also, whether the switch is on the ground wire or on the hot wire it still flows the same electricity.

personally i'd just cough up the $30 and get a thermostat switch and hook it up with a 30 amp relay so A) you don't have to wonder anymore and B) you don't have to manually operate it. If they are still running when you turn off the car, at least you know they'll turn themselves off in a very short while.

And NO, you DO NOT want to power your fans from another accessory like the wiper motor!!!
