I was getting ready to install my head on my "new" sr20det, when as I was cleaning the carbon off my pistons, I saw a knick on the #1 piston. It looks like a fingernail mark (to kind of describe what it looks like) on the top of the piston where it stars to dish down.

#1- Spend the $ and get stock size JE pistons?

#2-Find a stock sr piston in good shape for sale somewhere?

#3-Leave it and pray?

I dont even know where to find a Nissan stock piston.

Any input would help, THANKS.

Dave

will the piston for s15 fit your s13? If so, I have a set for the s15 that is not used.

all the RWD blocks are the same, so the pistons should fit just fine.

i don't think that small of a nick will be detrimental to the performance or the life of the engine. but i'm probably wrong

I'm gonna have to agree with this and say you're probably in good shape. This is of course provided that it is just a small nick and not a huge chunk, that nothing is cracked or bent, etc.

There COULD be a hairline crack in the piston. but from the description it sounds to me like your piston met a valve and the piston won.

I'd let it go, but i'm lazy, maybe post a pic? or ask a local machine shop?

You're sure it's not the valve relief you saw, right?

I ordered a stock piston and ring set (had to get whole set :( ) from Courtesey Nissan for $130. I had to get # off top of block to determine piston grade.

I must add the Courtesey Nissan lives up to their name. Brian was a great help getting the right piston.
