I have a hole in my CF hood and I'm getting paint soon so I need to do something about it. I was originally planning on just patching it with fiberglass and painting it, but since it's right in-front/above the turbo I was thinking that a vent might not be a bad idea. I'm still going to paint the hood body color so it looks less rice, but I'm trying to find a good vent or scoop to go there.

I know there are some "JDM" ones on ebay, but I'm not sure how they will look on the hood since it already has a vent.

I also like the one sweets13 has, but he's not sure what it's from:

Here are some pictures of the area (appx. 5"x6"):

Please post up some suggestions for vents or scoops. Thanks.

what the hell happened?? id say glass it and paint it. leave inside the scoop carbon, and just polish the hell out of it.

I'll get you measurements of the other scoop later, I think it'll cover that area pretty nicely if you go that route.

I bought it like this from Geno750. It was on his 180sx, but he converted to silvia front. It was a ceiling tile supposedly or something. I was planning on keeping the middle part carbon, I think that would look good. I need to do a PS and see, but I still haven't put my aero bumper or sideskirts on yet.

The hood pins are getting removed and either replaced or shaved. If I replace them I'll probably get the flush ones that lock. Those are some cheap JDM **** that were on the car when it came over.

The car it came off of is in his thread here: zerothread?id=216704

you need new hoodpins! :]

but seriously, i say stick the vent there, have it fiberglassed on (or however you would attach to CF) and paint match it.

Check summitracing.com for some add-on vents. Not JDM, but not expensive either.

I like that hood, I think the single vent looks very nice. I hate those cf hoods with like 4 vents. So its not a carbon copy of the oem hood, but its no bag of uncle ben's either. Also a scoop in that spot where it is damaged would look awsome.

It shouldn't have broken like that. Looks like it's already fiberglass with a thin layer of carbon for the look... I say go hoodless if you're looking for airflow, otherwise, just paint it. Personally, I would buy a new hood, as to me that is a safety issue in front end collisions.

of cours it's FG with a layer of CF over it. What you think I have a dry carbon hood?

I don't remember what kind of hood it is, I just know it's JDM. I think it was probably on that 180sx for a long time and who knows if it's even still in production or not.

I'm thinking just a plain rectangular vent with a few slots in it would look best. I'll mess with PS later.

If the vent helps I would use it. If you run a top mount with a stand alone that uses a map system I would definately use it. If not, glass it and paint the hood.

Quality CF hoods arent CF over FG, theyre just CF.

WTH is a dry CF hood?

Here is some info:http://www.seiboncarbon.com/faq.asp

Read the part about quality and dry carbon vs. wet carbon please.

VIS and Seibon both use fiberglass skeletons and the vented ones run about $600.

i would say that u should patch it and paint it. i dont think a scoop on that hood would look that good, but then again i could be wrong.

It has a FG skeleton. I believe that refers to the supports/bracing underneath. I dont think the surface is CF laid over FG. That would be the cheap way to build a 'CF' product.

Wet vs dry has nothing to do with the material used in the skeleton.

Good luck repairing your hood...

geez, havent you heard of speed holes flanders?

I think if you went for the scoop it would look nice, espessially with the hood painted the color of the car. good luck.

I think the vent it already has and a "scoop" will be too much. glass and paint.
