Freakin ridiculous! I can`t keep my car running longer then a few days before crap breaks! Yesterday I drove my car for the first time this year to work 25 miles away. No problems getting there on the way home I hear exhaust leak and it starts running like crap. Then it starts overheating 5 miles from home. 1 of the nuts on the Altima fans falls off and the fan wedge itself so it won`t turn. Then I wait for traffic to clear and finish driving it home. Hour later I found the leak all 4 bolts hold the turbo to the manifold are completely loose. 2 of the 5 bolts for the downpipe are loose as well:(All of the lock washers are completly flatten.

Couple of weeks ago I drive to church and my intercooler pipe blows off. Then on the way from home the radiator hose blows off:(

I have wiped rod bearing first engine. Cracked ring lands of second engine. Melted master cylinder, countless times IC piping blowing off, boost leaks etc! It kills me the money I have to throw at this car to keep it running only for a few days:(

Lock washers on exhaust components are a complete waste. The material loses it's spring ability under the tremendous heat created by the exhaust. Use lock-tite and nuts with a flat edge on one side and be done with it.

Sorry all that other stuff happened to you.

I know how you feel dammnitbobby..... Do what katwo40 said with the bolts and loctite, the samething happened to me but with one bolt....

Who did your turbo kit?

I drove my car for a long time with out anything happening until a small piece of welding from one of my pipes came into my motor, then i got that messed up free motor, it still runs with a bad headgasket but I don't want to completely mess it up. I don't want to just change the gasket because piston one has a bad ring....

What kind of turbo kit setup do you have?

Oh yeah I sent you the money for the pistons, THANKS A LOT DUDE!

I was waiting on the email. Send me your address to the .gov email address. I will try to ship it out Monday morning.

The kit is a Boostdesigns POS. I had a shop fix the other problems with the manifold and the IC piping. It is a big PITA to get the downpipe off and you can`t tighten 2 bolts on the turbo without removing the downpipe.

I am really considering getting the same person to custom weld me a different downpipe flange and change out the turbine housing to something like 4 bolt that would give me easier access. While I am at it I was thinking changing from .48 AR to .63 AR.

Does anybody have idea of what would be a good flange style to get that would be easier to work on? It is a Garret turbo. Where can I order flanges from.

Thanks sorry to get so PO but dam I have done nothing but work on this car for almost 2 years and it is still sitting in my driveway broken down again!

If I had it to do over again, I would opt for the 4 bolt flange. I really hate the 5 bolt. It's SO HARD to get to the bottom bolt, plus it puts the DP very close to the BMC.

You can get flanges at http://www.pheonixturbo.com or at http://www.agpturbo.com

I use gasket maker on my nuts and bolts...Fixed my downpipe issue so far....Put anice coat on the threads and then tighten down wipe off excess or leave it your choice... On my IC pipign I had spot welds around the ends and then took my grinder to it to make it smooth...I have my hose clamp behind this so I've never had an IC pipe pop off... Only once off the turbo, because my friend tightened it. Blew off 40miles later, I tightened it and have driven 1500miles since then at 17psi

Which gasket maker stuff are you using? If this doesn`t work I was thinking of using JGS allen head studs and flange nut for the turbo and downpipe. It takes several hours to do this because the downpipe has to be removed and exhaust. I really want to get this thing back on the road so I can finish tuning and take it to the dyno. I still have to order a fan to replace the junk altima fan:(

I have a oncenter turbo, my manifold is some what like yours it is the ssautochrome one, the oncenter turbo gives you so much room and clearance, but most oncenter backhousing have v band or 4 bolt flange so you would have to redo your down pipe.. It takes me a few minutes to remove my downpipe and I also put a flange on the lower part so it can also be removed......

See if you can get a oncenter backhouseing for your turbo, for more clearance and go with the v band or 4 bolt for your downpipe...

You can buy all your pipes at napa, I bought three in inch steel pipes from them i think the were around 20 dollars....

I was next to the SC ka on sunday and on the first day I was in the same spot I think, I was replacing my alternator on Saturday at the track....I was mainly at the Nico booth, was there almost all of Sunday... I had a nicoclub custom polo shirt was green one day and blue the next I beleive... I got 4 made... Going to make a thread soon for anyone that wants some....I used just regular gasket maker, If it's an issue though and this will probably wear off... Use the copper gasket maker in the tube... It's high temp.....Floyds13 was having the same problem with his, turbo off mani and downpipe off turbo. We were using the red high temp(smells nasty) on his and he hasn't lost a stud/nut since we did it...6months while prior he lost 5 nuts and 2 studs came out!!!!Aim: florida240sx Cell: 386-747-9982Why does it take so long to disassemble your exhaust system?? You spraying pb blater on everything??

zerothread/199499I started a picture thread who are you and what is your NICO name.

Hey is it hard to get the bolts off after you used gasket maker on the threads?

It takes couple of hours to get the turbo off and to reinstall it. The reason takes so long it is a pita to get to the bolts on the downpipe under the car on 3 bolt flange. I have gotten pretty good at getting the downpipe disconnected on the top. I will have to find some short wrenches to get a better angle on the bottom flanges.

For the 3 bolt downpipe, I use extensions and then use the box end of a wrench from under the car... Put the box end on top of the bolt to where it wedges itself and then use your socket with extensions....if you use pb blaste ron the bolts it comes off easy... By why are you removing your downpipe?

The downpipe has to move in order to access the 2 bolts that hold the turbo on the manifold. You have to disconnect the downpipe from the exhaust to get enough room to access the bolts under the downpipe. I will have to take pictures to show you what I mean.

I am going to see if I can get some type of Vband or 4 bolt to replace what I have now which is a mecedes 5 bolt flange.

I'd just take some wrenches cut an weld them to where you can get to it... I had some 1/2 wrenches that are 2' long

Damn, makes me glad I designed my own turbo system. All my bolts are easy as hell to access.

As much money as I have spent on this project and crappy parts I wished I had a welder and did my own fab work. Lucky I did find somebody that knows how to weld and fab stuff up but Dam it gets expensive quickly. Also if your stuff breaks you can reweld it and improve it where I am at the mercy of somebody else helping me:(

Last night I took Florida240sx advice and used some gasket maker on the bolts we will see how long that will last. My other problem now is finding fans to mount on my radiator since my Altima fan took a crap:(

WDRacing you got email!!

haha your altima fan took a crap...

Im just using the stock electric fan, a new koyo rad, and no mechanical fan, and I have 0 overheating problems. (same setup Fiznat ran)

and a welder is one the of the best investments I have ever made.

Yea the sucky thing is that I bought them from someone on NICO. I realize that crap happens. I am looking at buying a couple of 12 fans and just mount them with Ty wraps around the radiator. I found some on NICO but can`t remember who had them. At least it was high cfm and reasonable. I all ready have the thermostat control and relays.

Try getting a 350z fan. Signle fan and it flows hard. Here is the link for the nico advertisement.....zerothread/172066

Thanks Florida, I remember looking at this web site but forgot where I found it. I am going to order 1 14inch fan and see what it does for me. I saw somebody at NOPI with KAT that had one 14 fan pushing and 2 12 fans pulling. So I figure if I need another fan I will set it up to push. I am going to skip used fans for now.
