dam auto slushbox '89 240sx transmission goes into R but not D

So heres my story. my s13 had 475,xxx kms on the stock motor and it started knocking, and the transmission was slipping as well .

i bought a s13 '90 with 106,000 kms on it and dropped the motor and transmission in. exact same everything (wiring, looks the same ect.) but the car was totalled.

the motor started fine but it made some noise which i orginally thought was powersteering or AC pump.

I backed out of the garage and down the driveway just to take it down the street and back to see if everything was working good. --> when i shifted to R the noise went away........ I got to the end of the drive and shifted to D, the noise came back but was louded and harsher. there was no foward gear. tryed to move in 1, 2, D and even at high RPMs.

know im pretty sure it was the tourqe converter acting up. the car sinks of burt transmission fuild (lots).

now i have the other transmission for parts if the parts are still anygood.

Does anyone have any ideas because i spent about 600 bucks so far fixing the problems and im still using public transporation.

I would say ditch the automatic but your hypothesis on the torque converter looks good to me. Normally when clutch packs go out they dont all go out in every drive gear same for shift solinoids.

I guess thats what im going to do. I could I guess drop in another auto.. but actually I just talked to the guy today that I originally bought my car off of (about a year ago) and he said he had a 5sp with clutch and everything but the drive shaft for 100 bucks.

i wish i would of known he had it 12 months ago lol cuz ive been ripping it up in a auto
