Hello. I would like to ask you guys about KA tuning because I want the power and speed, but I still want my car to pass smog and be my daily driver. I know they are two conflicting things, but if any car can pull it off, its the 240.Heres my background. The most appealing car to me was a used FD RX-7, but complications arose so i couldnt get it. Now I am onto the S14 but I really want that power there. My question is, what can I do, what kits are offered and what opinions can you guys offer to put my daily driver up there.

well u cant really do much to a ka24 and pass smog at the same time. most people here will tell u either to get a sr20 and pay the guy to pass your smog test or to turbo your KA and pay the guy to pass your smog test. i kno california sucks and well if u havnt bought the car yet then u could go to a different state and buy the car and get it registered in a non smog testing state ad go there once a year to reregister. hmm or figure out sumthin. it hurts me when i try to think

My goodness I just finished reading the infamous "VS" thread. Wow. So many pages and now im just as confused as ever. Ill look into the rest of the threads right now, but is it possible to pass CA smog tests if i keep it around 250hp? I wanna keep it conservative, but my thing is that i want the power there just in case i wanna use it. I know you guys know what im talking about. That need for speed got to all of us. Thats why we became car enthusiats and thats why we picked these nissans. I know I picked the S14 because I loved the idea of autocross and drifting and all that stuff. But Im not gonna lay down bs about doing all that stuff because I dont. Im just a college student that wants a nice, fast car to drive to and from school, and has the ability to handle a nice joyride or a day at the track for some wheel spinnin fun. Ok i just wrote all that stuff and its not even relevant to my question. Hah.

Sorry about that. I didnt look over the post again to see if it was clear. Yah well I still want the turbo to push it to 250. Yah. Are (insert name here)-chargers illegal period or something? I must have been smoking crack and living in a cave cuz i didnt know they were if thats frickin true. Jeez. Please dont be illegal...

at this time, there's no bolt-on turbo kit that would be CARB legal on a 240. . . therefore, it won't be smog legal (won't pass visual tests and more than likely wouldn't pass the sniffer especially now that CA is making the sniffer test even MORE stringent)

Jeez man. -10 points California. We should get a group of guys, go to California's house and kick his ***. I think the only thing California's good for anymore is crappy cheese.Oh yah thats right. Wisconsin cheese is awesome.

Ok I have some clarification now on the turbo thing. So a swap isnt an option anymore and neither is a "(insert name here)-charger". Gah to that frickin "VS" thread. Oh well. They all talk about these great setups for 240's and BAM, i find out that CA legislation has screwed me once again.

Ok well that wraps up the thread then i guess...Unless this becomes a "Hey guys you should meet my really good friend here, hes a smog certification guy" thread.

true...or have an ecu tuned for turbo and a regular stock one...keep your old exhaust manifold back to the cat...make your IC easily removeable and be ready to swap out your injectors back to the crappy ones...and every year just make it an NA car for a day :D

not *all* swaps are illegal here in cali... just has to be from a USDM car, which SR20DET and RB aren't.
