Why not just focus on more of a reliable car than one thats fast if you cant afford much?

Civic, Sentra, some small 4 door mid 90's 4 banger that you can get for dirt cheap.

With 3k my suggestion would be a prelude for something reliable and fun, plus fwd makes things less complicated in snow

If you want cheap but also kinda fast, get a sedan with a v6, like a Maxima. For 3k you should be able to get a decent Maxima, Altima, V6 Camry or Accord without a problem with probably 100-120k miles on it. Don't bother getting a z31 it will be even more money down the drain

I agree. The z31 is just another money pit. Just to add to the sugestions above. Acura rsx, mitsubishi eclipse or lancer, scion tc... there are allot of more reliable daily drivers out there.

I used to drive a 2000 Altima. No timing belt to worry about, good MPG, strong motor and super easy to drive and work on , NEVER had an issue and its at 203k. oh and its current owner(my sister) completely ignores maintenance schedules.

if you're looking for a fun little fast car, a miata is good choice.

I'm in the same boat as you - same budget and all. My choices (all manual trans): audi b5 a4, maxima, 240sx, sc300, celica 5th+ gen, prelude 4 or 5 gen, integra, 2004+ accord ex coupe, sentra spec-v, alh Jetta or golf tdi. Sick of driving my behemoth Powerstroke around daily. Every single car above will go over 200k miles without a rebuild if proper maintenance is kept up.

This.

In a perfect world you could have all 3, but guys this is not a perfect world so you only get 2 choices. :chuckle:

Lol thats where all your money is going!!! May have to bite the bullet and put the Z off longer and get something that drinks more gas than the Z does!!

I think we're all honestly just trying to help.

No one is saying don't get yourself a nice tuner car you like, they're just saying have a back-up plan and save up until you do have something like that in place.

I have a 2003 Ford Focus that gets me to where I need to be in the winter and whenever my car is being worked on. It's not sexy, but it gets me to where I need to go anytime so I'm never in a giant rush to get work done on my z32.

The reality is that regardless of the fantastic engineering that went into these cars, you are buying a car from the early nineties. If someone tried to sell me ANY car from 1990 and called it 'reliable', my automatic response would be to laugh in their face. Treat it like a big boy toy, not something you need to go about your real life, and that real life will be much happier and stress free.

Lol, hoping this purchase shouldn't delay the Z build. Just waiting on shipping and should be able to get cracking :)

Where do you live? I got my GSX-R as a daily. $2700, <20k miles, and 40mpg. And the thing is fun as FACK!

Lol, no it's not for sale! I mean I got it for that much! I'm just saying that bikes are cheap, don't cost much to maintain, and are great on gas while still being awesome fun.

Post up some pics in the "your other car" thread! or here to lol. I like miata's especially when slammed to the ground with some aggressive wheels.

This is one of my favorite miatas, just cause of how destroyed the plate is.
