Hey dudes,

I know that the facelifted Y33s from 99-01 had the HID low beams, but I want to go back to a regular old halogen and not have to worry about ever replacing the ballasts... is it possible to do this and still keep the existing headlight housings? I'd rather have a HID setup in the fog light housings...

The reflector designs should be completely different. Your best bet would be to swap in an earlier headlight housing - assuming it'll fit.

Why do you want to ditch HID headlights in favor of Halogens?

Yes, that is exactly what I want to do.... swap them out for 97 or 98 pieces. I hate the look of the headlight housings on the facelifted FGY33 tourings. Quasi ovoid low and circular high beam opening with black border and fluted lens surface just looks a little cheesy and Wal-Mart tire lube and express inspired. The single clear wide lens dual hi/lo housing just looks more chic and uncluttered to me. It also seems to me that HID lighting is better suited for auxiliary beams like driving or fog, when you need better visibility. Heck, cars have been on the road at night for over a quarter century with halogen before HID came out, and when it did come out, it was featured on high-end cars with factory fog/driving lights that were of little or no use compared to the HID equipped low beams...so why did they even bother with auxiliary lighting? For most of us who live in urban areas, Halogen is just fine, when we venture out into the sticks... auxiliary HID lighting comes in handy. That's my reasoning.

My guess is that the earlier housings will work. If you search car-part.com for front fenders, hoods, and front bumper covers for a 2000 Q45 - they list 97-01 for all of those parts, so that would indicate that everything around the headlights should match. As far as wiring, I'm not sure how different that is... you'd have to compare service manuals - available at www.infinitiservicemanual.com

Good luck!

Heath
