I know the gurus here have the answer I'm looking for.

I've recently swapped an '89 Pathfinder rear end with LSD and 4.6 gears into my '02 Frontier Ka24de 5speed...
...annnnd now with the shorter gearing, 80mph actual speed reads as 100mph on the speedo and triggers the speed governor!

I've contacted a few ECU tuners/programmers (JetPerfomance, JimWolfTech, ect...) and no one seems to have an answer for removing the governor function except for swapping for another ECU from perhaps a 240sx.
I know that some of the 240 guys look for the automatic ECU's because they don't have a governor (speed is limited by the auto trans ecu)

My question(s) are:
-is there a way to override the factory speed governor (short of removing the speedo cable)?
or
-will an S14 auto trans ECU mate up to my Frontier harness/system? (and would I have to then run the S14 intake assembly/maf?)

I've done quite a bit of searching on this topic, and the majority of the replies regarding the speed governor removal are from members chiding the author, repremanding him/her for 'driving reckessly' and endangering others.
I daily drive my truck, but I also track it weekly, which is the only reason I need to overcome this limitation.
I'm not looking for personal opinions on public safety. I'm older than most members here, and don't drive recklessly on the street. enough said.

thanks guys :)

If I were to venture a guess I would say you can tune out the speed limiter, hybridKA, when it was still around, was a plethora of info when it came to this stuff. Pejsa has done an ecm swap on his truck, I wonder if the same guys who tuned his can help you out. As for pinouts for both ECMs we have them in our FSM section, Nissan kept the same ECM plugs for a few years so moving the pins around to swap in another ECM is a do-able thing. Love your truck and have been following your progress over at IN.

Thanks Rev.! your truck's looking better each time I check in here!

Pesja is actually the one who has been helping me look for options to my dilema right now. He was running a tuned Stanza ecm, but he has deleted all of his smog equipment, ect...
I'd like to keep most of my factory functionality if possible, and most of all- to pass smog! :)
I'll check the pinout diagrams and see how far apart they are. I don't mind rewiring, but I don't want to get it all rewired to find out it won't work :)
I'm wondering if a D22 ecm from an auto truck would do the trick? Does the auto trans have a separate computer in our trucks?

Looking at the 2002 Frontier FSM it looks like the ECM controls everything, AT as well. The FSM doesn't go into tuning specs regarding top speed limiters though which is unfortunate.

thanks for checking on those. so it's beginning to look like the S14 auto trans ecm is the most viable option...
...with that route, there is a lot of aftermarket support also (Jim wolf ect...)

is the best way to just get the fsm's for each vehicle, and chase wire colors to match up where each goes?

Yes, that would be the best way. Then once everything is wired up the ECM will need to be tuned to accept any differences in sensor output. Or I imagine it can be tuned to ignore items that might cause it to turn a MIL on. I really wish HybridKA was still around, it's exactly what you are looking for. Another place to check out would be our new tuner forum and the KA-t forum. Those guys will be able to help you for sure!

everything i have is purely speculation... but IMO it should work

the engine runs off of all the same basic controls etc. the only problems i see coming up are MAF related, possibly different ignition setup?

just seems like all the circuits should be basically the same, or at least close enough to make it run... the other basics are where things would seem to get trickier... are the 2 harnesses even the same? or would you need a new harness? that sort of thing

It would be nice if you could cut the wire going to the speed limiter and still keep it hooked to the speedometer somehow. And even inside the ECU, how complex could the speed-limiter hardware be? Would it be something as "simple" as de-soldering a transistor? I'm not sure, but it makes me wonder.
