An odd question to start with, I'll admit, but when you're building something as odd as this, it sorta makes sense...

Anyone know what the end-to-end dimension is for a D21 rear bumper? I've measured the one on the later Frontier at 63", and that's going to be a bit too wide for this project. From what I see, the D21 has the same angled wrap-around that I like for this project, but I'm hoping the earlier truck is a bit narrower.

I'm assuming they were all the same for the ~10 year production run, but if anyone knows otherwise, I'm all ears. Any input on what tools are needed for junkyard removal?

Thanks,Brad

P.S. If you have any interest, you can read about the above project here:http://forum.merkurclub.com/fo...art=0

It's what happens when you get a nutty idea to combine a Subaru Brat and Merkur XR4Ti, and then actually do it.

Any input on removing the bumper appreciated as well. Ford Ranger rear bumpers can be a nightmare to remove, as the captive nuts often break free. Anyone know what size the bolt-heads are on the D21?

Anyone have any dimensions?

What about bolt-head sizes to remove a rear bumper at the junkyard?

Well, I came across a '94 D21 at the junkyard, so I'll answer my own question, if only for my own future reference.

The bumper measures 61" end-to-end, which happens to be exactly what I'm looking for. Removal requires 18 and 19mm wrenches and sockets. A 2-foot breaker bar is your friend, if not an impact gun.

Too add to your post: The rear bumper from the Frontier up to 2004 will fit on the 90's era D21 Hardbodies.

You just need to use the Frontier bumper brackets to make it fit. There is no modification required and the Frontier bumper looks very nice on the D21 Hardbody.

Hmmm, I stopped and measured the bumper of a newer Frontier one day, and it was 63" rather than the 61" I measured on the D21 '93. Maybe it was a 2005+.

Appreciate the info - that could make life easier if it turns out that the Frontier also has a 61" bumper through 2004.

You were right about the width being different, but putting the wider Frontier bumper on a D21 Hardbody...it actually looks better than the stock D21 bumper.

But I find your Merkur/Brat combo an interesting project.
