hey guys,

my 94 d21 4x4 ka24e is intermittently making a squeaking noise that goes up and down with the tire speed. It does it at slower speeds (0-40) and doesnt seem to do it on the highway (or i just cant hear it if it does) I turned the engine off once while it was doing it and it for sure is not any of the accessory belts, but it sounds almost exactly like the accessory belt squeak. The squeaking comes and goes as i drive and is not affected by stepping on the brakes.

anyone have any idea what this is? I have never heard a wheel bearing squeak although that was the first thing i thought could be doing it..

cheers for any input
Marko

Unless you have actually looked at the front brake pads and made sure that wear indicators are not dragging. If its not them then I would start with rotating the tires to rule out a radial belt noise from the tires.

hmm. well i removed the pass side wheel and that pads are fine. i put new pads /rotors on the front last fall. the pass side front tire has some bad toe wear though, the outside is worn down to wear indicator, maybe that is causing it. i am getting new tires soon so i guess ill find out if the squeaking stops

cheers

Better fix the alignment issue before you throw new tires on.

My 2wd does the same thing......I replaced pads, machined rotors, but every grear once in awhile it chirps like a bird and goes faster with acceleration.....however mine will quit or diminish when I apply the brakes. May be my "inexpensive" brake pads?????
