I am taking my d21 4x4 and putting the ka24de
93 240sx motor in it I've modified the oil pan and pick
Up tube the motor mount are going to be tricky.
Any one done this swap Ive got pictures on everything I've done
Actually hasn't been very hard to do. The4x4 trainy bolts up
Just fine. .......

The truck motor has 134hp/152tq, and the 240sx motor has 155hp/160tq**; but numbers don't always tell the whole story. Is your truck noticeably more powerful now? Does it have similar low-end output?

If the low-end output is just as good as the truck motor, then my thought is that Nissan purposely made the truck motor less powerful so it wouldn't step on the toes of the 240sx. I have always suspected that to be a factor in the design differences.

**Note that I compared a SOHC truck KA to a DOHC 240sx KA, but even the DOHC Frontier KA had 12hp less than the DOHC 240sx version, and I don't want to split hairs.

Well the truck is no together yet . I'm also biulding a hydrogen project
Out of the ka its a strong motor easy.to tuneand parts at easyto come up with
I also plan to turbo it . To give it some more kick

Let me know how things go with the change-over. I've got a 91 with a KA24E that isn't running right. Was toying with either sending it out to be rebuilt, or swapping for the KA24DE! Not sure what I want to do yet. Found a good DE for $450, but.....
Interested in knowing how difficult the swap is before buying.

This is what I've figured out is the ka24de should bolt up to 87 4x4
manual 5 speed transmission.

Since we all know that the Ka24 came from the truck anyways I wasn't surprised

So far parts needed
1. new oil pan fab.
2. motor mounts.
3. mod brackets holding trans to engine
4. ecu and harness for Ka24de of engine useing
5. fuel pump.
6 mod exhaust. turbo or non-turbo
7. mod power steering hoses and location of reservoir
8. starter for ka24de



parts used from truck on motor
1. flywheel for truck used on ka24de


wiring that will have to be done
1.


Stores and locations for parts
1.sheet metal 16gage any hardware store(oil pan mod)
2.metal tube from LOWES (sump tube)
3.90 JIC fitting mod accordingly to sump mount and tube
4.
5.
6.ebay: most of the hard parts turbo,fuel pump,

i own a 1991 d21, 2wd... thinking about doing the de swap. will the ka24e computer and 91 d21 engine wiring harness hook up to the ka24de engine? my truck is a 5-spd.

no, I would use the doner engine harness and ecu for the swap this will
make sure things run correctly.

I went and got some 93 d21 truck doors that were fully complete black at the junk yard dirt cheap and like no rust

I took the z24e motor that I had in it and looked at the oil pan and took measurements. I then took the 91 ka24de oil pan and cut it like 1-1/2"
all the way around. I cut out pieces and then welded them together.

it is tilted on a angle in this next pic you will see this is for clearance of the pan with the crank and binging mounted ..... I have to weld a mount to the tube not done with the sump tube yet

the bottom of the tube is from the 87 z24 engine. I also had to use a 90 JIC fiting by the front which had to be fabbed for such tight clearances

As you can see on the oil pan I put in Return line plugs for a engine cooler
and the turbo return line

I wanted to lead the way on this post since I new there was a lot of guys wanting to do this same swap. I will post dimensions,parts list when I am closer to getting done
I want to make sure my complete build doesn't leave something out

I hate to bring this thread back to life but I am trying to do the same thing and I am running into oil pan clearance issues (even with sump reversed). I would love to know if the original poster had figured that out. Any updates? Has anyone seen a KA24DE in a 4x4 hardbody?
