Hello, I'm HKLLP ..HK for short. I'm new here and hope to glean a wealth of info to help me regarding my Nissan truck. I have a 94 D21 2 wheel drive. 5 spd manual with a 4cyl. I'm currently attempting an engine swap to a six. Anyone out there with useful info, please respond. I have the motor and ECM, I need a bell housing and wiring harnesses. The engine is a VG30E single turbo. All the work on this was done myself, The theme is specific to the squadron in which I served as a Harrier mech. This is my version of an FLS (Flight Line Support) vehicle. Thanks.Image Image Image Image Image

Woah! That's a crazy awesome truck! Welcome to NICO! I take it you are swapping in a turbo Z motor? Besides mounting, wiring and driveline modifications there shouldn't be too much to the swap since the trucks did come with V6 engines that shared the same block as the Z V6 block.

Rev_D21 Thanks for the reply. The motor is from a 94 pathfinder VGE30. If for some reason I "dumb assed" it up with that choice, please advise I can't find info on the bell housing mods to adapt the existing 5 speed manual Then of course I'm concerned about the splines not matching.

Not the end of the world. There were SEV6 and XEV6 versions of the 2WD trucks. I bet you could source a transmission or bellhousing from one of those. I have had decent luck searching using www.car-part.com in the past for good used parts in my area.

The 4cyl transmissions(fs5w71c) are different than the 6cyl units(FS5R30A). You will need the latter, and try finding one that doesn't have super high milage, the syncros should be in better shape. Previous owners put the wrong fluid in these transmissions and it eats up the syncros, seems like the first to go is 3rd gear syncro.

If you are doing the VG30ETurbo swap, using some compact solid motor mounts will gain you space near the trubocharger, and in ours we had to relocated the waste gate actuator. Some light massaging of the firewall was needed if using the stock crossover exhaust pipe.

Thanks to Sweetride2go for the advice. I've decided for ease of install to go with a 97 KA24E and simply upgrade airflow, headers, muffler and cat. in addition an MSD ignition control, coil, Tach adapter, wires (Accel 8.8mm) and plugs (NGK). I'll keep the old motor for spares and swap the timing chain and tensioner. If I've missed anything please advise.
THANKS to all of you for the support....I dig! Semper Fi !

Another question: The 97 engine has a different distributor connector than the 94, will the 94 distributor fit on the 97? Or is there a connector adapter available to adapt the 97 distributor to the 94 wiring. Since the mount plates are identical, the 94 should work....am i wrong here?

Sorry I cant offer any advice on the swap, but I just had to compliment your truck. Love the theme, looks fantastic.
