- Fellas, how happy are you with your Coilovers, after making the switch from stock to Coils, or if you upgraded from Springs to Coils? I'm considering the purchase of a D2 RS set for my M. But I wanted to check to see how happy some of you guys are, with your setup. I searched thru about 7 pages of threads when i did my Search for them and I don't think i have seen any bad wording on them. Most people actually recommened them over other brands. I think my main concern lies with having to remove them to adjust damping.

Having come from the Honda / Acura side of the house years ago, i'm familiar with the workings of coilovers. I went thru a few different setups and ended up lastly with set of Tein coilovers and was thoroughly happy. But, i soon found out that there was really no serious need for a set of full coilovers because once I made my 3rd or 4th adjustment, that's where they stayed for the remainder of the time i had the car. Driving wise they make a pretty good diff. But I also had a setup composed of KYB shocks/struts with springs and they drove like magic too.

If you can, :chuckle: please convince me that it's probably a better option to go with the coilovers for my M, as opposed to running a set of springs on the car.

any feedback given would be appreciated.

Try to talk with Chris (CGinev) from Philly. He's a D2 Racing dealer and has done alot of M's.

So far I haven't had any problems with my D2 Racing set.

Well it comes down to money "issue".
I spent close to $700 for Intrax springs and KYB shocks/struts for my other vehicle just to find out that setup suck a$$. Now I am stuck with it until get some money to buy coilovers.

If your current struts and shocks are old and worn out maybe you get set of coilovers and be done with it.
You buy springs now and spend $200 and then in a year or so you get new OEM struts and shocks and will cost you another $700-$800. So you are looking to spend $1K one way or the other.

But that's just me.

Yeah, i shot him a PM yesterday after doing a little research. But thanks for looking out though. ;)

- on SN/ when using the D2 coilovers, does it offer camber adjustability or just damping adjustments?

No camber only damping.

He'll be able to give you a good price on the kit & installation if you can make it to him.

Yeah, i wish i was available to buy & have them installed at the same time. But i'm currently out of the country, so i'll have them shipped and waiting for my return.

Question??? Are you running Air or the same D2 Setup? If so, are you using a camber kit?

I won't be slammin my ride, but I think the look and ride will be better with the coilovers, opposed to a set of springs.

Have you considered BC racing coils? We always have an excellent deal on them. Custom spring rates available as well.

No I'm not running air and no camber kit. I do have the camber bolts for the front. I'm very close to oem alignment specs even with the full size tires & 20" wheels (245/35 & 385/30).

My car is not slammed, it's set up to carry the family around. I'll post a pic up for you in a few.

D2 air would be nice but not in my town, too many pot-holes. :tisk:

^^ That's a nice stance. It's def. the look that i'm wanting. Hopefully the wheel setup that i'm looking at will tuck, with the coils on. I'm looking at a set of 20x10.5 +45 running 285/30's.

I'll have to leave a little wiggle room in the rear also,as I have two pre teen ladies too.

You may need a little camber at the rear. The lower you go the more room you get.

20x10.5 et45 will stick out the fender. Should be okay with 275/30 but 285/30 may need a little help. A little camber or very a little pull will help.

Another way would be to mill a few MM out of the rear wheels (best way for me).

Yeah, i kinda figured that on the camber issue. As far as the 275/30, I'm thinking that will be slightly streched, so i'll take that into consideration as well.

On a SN/ i'm still waiting to see if they will release this new wheel size later this spring / early summer. The wheels are Vossen's and according to wording from one of their reps on FB, they are releasing a 20x10 in the same rim. If that holds true, i'll end up going with that size.

Question.. is the shop in Philly, a full service shop? (suspension, brakes, etc etc)

I might just hold out and have them do the install, and see if they'll do this BBK at the same time.

Good looking out homie..

I too keep going back and forth between springs and coils...but I'm leaning towards the BC's if I go coils.

Yes I have the D2 Racing coilovers on my M (car pic above).

They ride nice and I rather have the coilovers than a set of springs. Being able to adjust them is a very big +.

So far so good.

I lowered the car another 1/4" yesterday

she is at 26" at all fenders, she is now tucking the top 1/2" of the tire without anyone in the car (245/285).

Thanks Kermit the guy

It's all about the offset.

If i was to change my tire size to 225/35 front & 245/35 rear the car would be 1/2" lower without adjusting the coilovers. I would be able to lower the car where the fender lip would be even with the wheel lip. I just can't think how drivable the car would be that low.

Because my town has really bad roads and I have my family with me most of the time I won't be going any lower, I'll keep my big tires for now with no camber..

It must be really nice to park the car and drop it all the way down with air suspension but I was told that my car now rides just as low as those that have air bag system, maybe even lower while still having the big tires. Best thing is I still can hit XXXmph without problems.

I love VIP cars, Smitty & Chris have done a great job on the M's. Now I'm waiting to see what Ruben from NY is coming out with.

What are your offset & tire size in that pic?
