Hey guys, im a noob with a suspension question. I rode in my friends s13 coupe and he had D2 Coilovers and i personally thought they were great. There was no body roll what so ever and it handled awesome and im in the market for some coilv overs here in about 2 weeks and my question is first.....what would most of you think D2's are best for?? Auto X, Drift, Drag, Grip Racing. Are they good for all genres or are they good for certain ones. Secondly I know that there not the most popular brand so what other NAME BRAND would be close to them or better. Again such a noob but i would like to know what all you pros think. Thanks

My only ride in a car with coilovers was an S13 with D2's. I was impressed with the handling as well.

But I (and I'm guessing you too) dont have anything to compare it to besides the stock suspension. Nearly any coilover would be an 'amazing' upgrade from what I'm used to. I think the biggest factor of buying coilovers is quality and reliability. I think thats why McRussell says the D2's suck.

Two other coilovers Ive thought about are the Megan Streets and the ever praised KTS coils from SPLparts.com. The Megans are cheaper by ~$200, but the KTS seems to impress even guys coming from more expensive coilovers (like entry level Teins). Its a tough decision, but I think you should try to ride in a car with another set of coilovers before making a decision.

I personally have decided to go with KTS (if I can find them used) or cheap out and get a strut/spring combo.

IMO, the D2's are alright. They were very popular due to the low prices, but because the D2 craze exploded their prices shot up on them and I dont think its worth paying what they want for them. I also agree if you're looking for a good coilover at a good price, Megan and KTS coilovers should be your top 2 choices. You can also look into powertrix. They're not quite as familiar as the previous 2, but have gotten great reviews from people who own them.

They were great for $600 back in the day..

They're still good if you need budget coilovers fast.

I have them on my car and enjoy them.

But you might wanna get something with more of a name brand. Ideally, you'd want the kts coilovers, because if anything goes wrong with them, spl parts will take care of you FAST.
