Hello my name is James and i just bought a Nissan 240sx for about $1,500. I was just curious because im a "newbie" at custom cars, but how would I go about making my car faster. I just wanted to get advice to what parts I should look into purchasing to be competative in legal street racing. Thanks you and sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

Good question: Reading as many past threads as you can and searching will be your best bet unless you like getting flamed a lot.

Unfortunately you went awry with this line. There is no such thing as legal street racing. You will likely loose your car/money/license depending on where you are. The 240sx you purchased will not be "competative" in any drag race if that is your thinking unless your bank has a trust fund for you.

If you want to compete in you car I suggest finding a local autocross group. Your 240 will be more at home there.

I've found researching car upgrades is half the fun of doing them. It'll all about what makes you happy. If you haven't had much experience working on cars I would suggest first getting a repair book for your car and performing all the necessary maintenance. If you find you still like to work on it after it all you'll be in good shape for bigger projects. If you find that the rusty diff plug caused you lack of sleep and to hate your car, modifying may not be for you.

Ask youself, "What do i want my car to do and what abilities/money do i have to do them with." Then go form there.

Personally I started by reading the folling when i had my integra. The car may be different but the principals are the same.http://store.summitracing.com/...w=sku

Good luck!

Make sure your car is up to par stock condition first... then learn to drive... then upgrade

and search.
