OK guysand girls, need some help here with these darn headlights. OK when I turn on the headlights ,they pop up and the lights come on . When I turn off the lights ,the lights go off but do not retract. OK when I press the dash mounted switch the lights pop up ,but when I press the dash mounted switch they will not go down. I have checked the fuses , switched out the relays and still the same problem . Alright so I decided to unplug the motor from the other part of the wiring harness ,took a 12volt tester and found the hot wire coming from the power dist box . I made a jumper and connected one end the hot wire and touched the other end to the prongs of the motor connector . I was able to make the light on which ever side i was working on go up and down . Now to me that lets me know that the motor is oK.(Am I correct on this ?) Is this a problem with the relay boxes the switches or what . Any ideas on what i can do to solve this problem. I went to my local Nissan dealer and tried to talk to some of the mechs (what horses rear ends) with no help there. I have not been able to put thos car on the road yet ,because i want to get everything fixed ,and along with the AC this problem is bugging the mess out of me . Also when I put the car in reverse the back up lights will not come on , checked fuses and bulbs all ok . Have not checked to see if have any power to lights will do that ASAP. If no power WHAt next???

thank you all for being here for stupid questions like these .

I looked hard at the schematics, and there are 4 relays that control the open/close function of the headlamp.Since you can open them fine, the last two relays in the circuit have proven they are working. Since you cant close the lights, the problem could be one of the two relays, listed as #3 and #4 in the FSM. It could also be your switch on the steering wheel is malfunctioning.I will post on where to locate these relays in just a minute.

Well, i cant find the relays on my car, so ill tell you that you need to take off your steering wheel and chack the lighting =switch underneath. When you get the wheel off, the 2 sockets on the bottom right are for lighting/motor control.

Well its actually 6 relays all together. #4 conrols the power to #3 and the up motor function. When the coil on #4 is turned off, the power is, by default, routed to #3 and sends power through the motor relays to power them down. The #3 relay's coil is activated by putting the lighting switch (on the steering column) in the off position, completing the circuit and setting the chain reaction into motion.

thats why i said check the lighting switch because if the #3 relay is not getting the proper signal that the lights are off, the motor will not close.

sorry to bring up an old thread. But I have looked at the diag. in the fsm it is greek to me. My driver side head light stopped retracting. Just wanted to know if out of the #3 and #4 relay's if there was 1 relay for each head light? Or do the work in conjunction?
