Hey out there im new to this board and have a serious question to ask. Here is the situation, I am currnetly living in germany have the oppurtunity to come into a 91 200sx with the CA18DET. A girl i know has one and says it is running into problems, one of the porblems she said is that it has a dead cylinder. Now I know that there can be a number of things causeing this anywhere from a blown ring to just needed a new spark plug. Now I dont have too much experience with the CA18 but i do have experience with nissan motors owning a maxima with a 100 shot of nitorous on it and lots of other go fast goodies that I have installed myself. And I have also help many friends build up there 240s with either a SR20det swap or just the plain old KA. But anyways i just want to know if any of you on this board have had this problem before with your CA18 and if so what was causing it. Just so i know when i go to get this car I know what I should look for to narow the down time on it so I can enjoy it. Oh and if your wondering why im goign to get a car with a dead cylinder. Cause she giving it to me for the best price. FREE:D Thanx

the first most important thing is to do a compression test.

from there you will know just how dead the cylinder truly is.

it coul djust be a loose coilpakc or stuck injector for all we know.but do a comp test just incase.

I've seen many a dead cylinder due to a burnt out exhaust valve, coil pack or spark plug.

If the fault is mechanical its either rings, valves or a hole in the piston, otherwise it could be spark plug, coil pack or injector. Just for the case here`s a link to Euronissan 200sx they have a download for the german technical manual(CA18DET), u can find it under "Technik".
