I've got the Chilton's book and it was no help. I looked in the archives on this site and found nothing. I just want to know how the heck to get the upper timing chain and cylinder head off of my ka24de. Do I have to remove the cams to get the head off or do I just need to perform some crazy contorsionist routine to get the hex bolts out?

ha, well you have to take the cam gears off (a socket on the obvious bolt on the cam, and a wrench on the cam where it has a bolt-looking part on the shaft) take off the cam guides off in a certain order (its in the maual u bought) take the cams out carefully!!! then get to the hex bolts, take them out in a certain order specified also. then take the timing gear on the head off and pull the head off. oh there are some grounds to take off before u start all this. and DO NOT tip the head on its side or upside down. all those lifter buckets will fall out and ur gonna be pissed. good luck

The buckets themselves should be the same everywhere. However, on top of each lifter bucket is a shim to adjust the lifter with respect to the cam. May have to go through all the shims to get the valve clearance back into spec.
