the code reader says cylinder 5 misfire, which cylinder is #5 and will changing the coil fix it, the car runs fine at speed, it has had a small hesitation for many many miles when i come to a stop, but recently it has gotten worst, has small trouble off the line but once moving it is fine, is there anything else that could cause the misfire, i have read reviews that many other people have had coil problems, just not sure what to do

could be the coil, but most likely the injector.

number 5 is the rear of the engine [near transmission], under the manifold.

easy thing to do is swap the 3 and 5 coils and see if cylinder 3 misfires.if it does, the coil is bad. if 5 still misfires, its the injector.

i swaped the coils like you said and the problem seemed to go away, the code reader still said a problem with o2 sensors but the cylinder 5 misfire code went away and no code came up for a cylinder 3 misfire and the very ruff idleing went away. i drove the car for 30 minutes and it still had a small hesitation but only when stopped and in gear only. its been doing that for 50 or 60 thousand miles now it is barely niticable, could it be a combonation of a week coil and bad or dirty injector, the minute i swaped the coils back, it came back with cylinder five misfire and was idleing very hard when stopped and in gear. could a week coil cause the injector to foul or go bad beyond repair, thank you for your help and input.

no problem.

i would replace that coil.

i would rather drive with a failed closed injector than a bad coil.

bad injector, cylinder just moves air.bad coil, cylinder loads with fuel, dilutes oil...[could happen with rare failed open injector]

I dont think a weak coil could cause the injector to go bad butyou might have the idiot computer tell you that!

You have failed to consider the serious lean condition that a bad (non-functioning/stuck closed) injector would cause that would send the cylinder temperature through the roof, give the rings and cylinder walls hell, and totally throw off your o2 sensor voltages. . .your ecu would have a feild day with that one. . . but you had the diluted oil as a result of a bad coil right . . . most people don't consider the serious lubrication and cooling properties of fuel once it enters the combustion chamber when dealing with situations like this. (entire post was meant in a non-d!ck way. just trying to be helpful here)
