Hi. So lately i have been having problems with rough idleing and a sluggish poping while accelerating ive searched around and found out that if a remove the spark plug wires while its idleing i can single out what cylinder is having a problem. so i have came to the conclusion cylinder 1 is the problem it has spark and i have switched out the plugs so its not that. there is a oilish brown liquid on the tip of the plug i have searched around trying to find what the problem might be but havent got anywhere the wire does have a little nic in the rubber for the first cylinder but they are new wires plugs and rotor. and its a 1989 sohc motor. any help would be appreciated thanks. O yea and im a new poster but have been cruzin for awhile so whats up everyone.

brown liquid is probobly oil, check your valve cover gasket to see if it is leaking, not THAT big of a problem, but you should replace it.

is the fuel injector for #1 firing? you can use a noid light or just listen to make sure it is clicking.

Head over to kragens by raley's and pick up a noid light. Should be near the tools in the middle. grab one for a GM as they dont sell them for Nissan specific. Of the 2 GM ones they had its the one with the closer ,smaller pins.

When you say brown liguid on the tip are you refferring to the external tip or the electrode tip in the cyl?

Ok i will do. The brown liquid is on the electrode side the part that goes in the cyilinder i have changed spark plug #1 with #4 and it put that same liquid on the #4 spark plug. And NISTECH i actually just got a job at that kragens i start on the 1st of next month im hoping a learn a little something working there and taking auto classes at the srjc thanks. and i have read around that on the sohc there is alot of people who have leaky injectors could that be the problem and is that what the noid light tests?

It could be a leaky injector. No the noid light does not test for that. It test for injector pulse from the ECM. If the light stays on for long periods of time it would indicate that cyl is getting a constant ground somewhere.

The brown fluid you saw was it dark or light brown. If it is so light its almost white it indicates you might be getting coolant in there, if its dark brown could indicate oil leaking in past rings or valve guide seals. Do you have any unusaul smoke out the tail pipe? blue is oil, white[thick] is coolant, grey [misinterpeted for faint white] is fuel. If the fluid on the electrode is almost clear like then I would guess fuel an be thinking leaky injector. You test for that using a fuel gauge and pinching fuel lines one at a time till the pressure doesnt drop. Key is cycled betwen each hose pinch. This is done with the car off, just turning the key from off to on.

ok by listining with a screw driver i have determind that the injector for cylinder #1 is now working (not clicking like the other ones) so does the noid light or what tool could i use to see if it is the injector itself or the wireing thanks.

The noid light will tell you that. If the light flashed when plugged into the injector connector the wiring is sound and its your injector. If it does not flash its the wiring.

coolant would get in by a leaking head gasket.
