So lately I've been noticing a whining sound in both a and m modes at higher rpms (4,000+) and I'm pretty sure it's the CVT. I tried to find more info and it's starting to look like I'm going to have to get a new transmission. The car is an '09 altima coupe 3.5 with 50k miles on it. I'm pretty sure it's covered under warranty by Nissan but I'm not 100% sure yet. Has anyone else had similar issues and if so, how did they fix the problem. Any feedback would be great.
P.S. - I'm new to this fourm and not sure if this is the right place to ask.

I dont think its time for a new transmission.... if trannys went that fast nissan would have 0 customers left. Thats just a typical nissan whine. I normally hear it when its really hot out, or when my engine is working really hard. Just do what i do and lie to people telling them thats your supercharger haha

Hahaha it really does sound a lot like a supercharger. After reading a lot of different posts and reviews I started to worry that I'd need to get a new transmission. It seems that I'm not alone and that the problem isn't as severe as I thought. Thanks for the feedback!

Had my coupe for 103,000 miles. Never heard that whine you're talking about. It DID have a small bit of 'whine' if I can call it that, around 4-6k RPM but that was under full throttle load, and just barely noticeable. I think it started after 70-80k miles. The transmission never gave me any trouble so I can't say if there was something wrong.

Also you should be covered by Nissan for 120k or 125k miles according to their CVT warranty they enacted back a few years ago.
